Are you kidding? Mine went under 17 if I went highway over 65 for any length of time, and never got above 18. Sure I could get instantaneous scangauge readings of 20-25mpg, but they never lasted. Just like I get spikes to 30mpg on the F150. Highest I've done was 23mpg from Marathon to Rochester, via back roads. All 30-55mph, small towns, stop signs, red lights, no highway for 100 miles. For 100 miles I got 5+ mpg better in a 1,000 lb heavier, wider, taller, longer, more powerful truck. Still amazes me.

Also still amazes me that I can drive it like I stole it one tank, drop it down to 16-17 mpg, go easy the next one, and get 18+ on that go around. I picked up 1mpg swapping the air filter on the Tacoma. After that, it hardly mattered if I took it easy, or raced it. Nothing change.

I'd be happy with a 2016 SR 4WD V6 if it had a 26 gallon tank stock and optional 32 gallon. Must be pretty hard to do, or far down on Sweers list.

Must have been 2015's since they ordered them from the factory I think. Didn't want a lot of the extra options on the ones on the lots. I wasn't involved other than driving them up to Rochester to pick up the one for my grandmother.

SoA just repurchased my wife's 2014 for lil consumption issues. Even a new short-block didn't fix the issue.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I'd go Taco. 40k is a lot for a bare bones truck if you ask me. Could get a completely decked out Taco with all the bells and whistles for less.

How many times are people going to ask this question? Are they really that confused about Mid/Full size? Totally different trucks.

Tough decision, I went through the same thing myself. I am coming from a Jeep wrangler unlimited (which I love) and switching to a pickup truck (I have been using my jeep as a pickup and I find that I really need the bed). I have only had american pickups in the past (silverado, Sierra, and an F150) and I planned on getting either an F150 or a sierra but 2 things steered me towards the Tacoma (just ordered a 2016 OR DCSB MT 4x4).

    1. size: the F150 is enormous which is great for passengers (and I am married with a kid on the way) but much more difficult to drive and park and most importantly will not fit in my garage.

    2. Manual transmission: the Taco is one of the few trucks that is available in a 4x4 double cab with a manual

Ironically, price wise I can get a comparable F150 or sierra for about the same price as a Tacoma and that is one of the hard pills to swallow because you do feel like you are getting a lot more truck with the 150.

If you do decide on the F150 then I would really consider the 5.0 because in real world fuel economy you will do just as well as the v6 turbo but it will be more reliable and simple to work on, however I did find that dealers were discounting the 2.7L Turbo more than the 5.0.

You should also expect significant discounts on american trucks....the sierra i was looking at was literally 20% off MSRP and the F150s are almost the same (you should pay between 5k-8k off MSRP)

    I was offered a 5.0L V8 SuperCrew 6.5ft bed XLT 4X4 OTD for $34,000.
If it was the Sport package and not the Chrome package I might have just jumped on it.
I'm tryin to see if I can't get an XL with the same options I want for less than $30K.

I'm in the same position as you. Family demands are more full-size. If we're talkin just me and no one else an F150 Supercab or Taco works fairly well. I may have to borrow a truck from a buddy a few times a year for hauling and towing but I can easily do that.

PS don't get anything less than a 6 foot bed. They are so non-functional at that point it's not even funny.

I'm going to say it again for everyone that might have missed it: full-size and midsize are completely different things. Apples to oranges.

    This is truck porn.

White is the sexiest color ever on these trucks.
