Why wont 2023 TRD OR spin donuts with traction control off?

I just brought home a new Tacoma and am learning the truck. Last night we had some rain so I went to an empty parking lot to explore the limits of the truck in a safe environment.
I was impressed with the traction and control the stock Wrangler tires have in the rain. In fact nothing I did could initiate a slide or spin.
In every other vehicle I have owned I could initiate a slide or spin at will. In my last car, a 2020 Wrangler I had to deactivate the traction control and the stability control but once done it would spin.
In the Tacoma with the traction control off I just get a dashboard full of warning lights and a stuttering, jumping back end.

Not really enough down low power to begin with, and in higher rpms the computers probably still nerf the power delivery to protect components.

You will need to detail what you mean by "traction control off".

Ha. I’ve had my truck sliding around after a light rain. Camper shell on it even, with the traction control on.

Yup, if you just quickly press and release the Traction control button then it doesn't fully turn off. You have to come to a complete stop, press and hold the button until Trac Off and VSC Off light comes on.

Definitely read up on the controls, but also realize you have more traction, less power, and an open differential.
How much practice do we need at this point? This isn’t pre 1980s when every vehicle had V8s, rear wheel drive, and no traction/stability control.

I spun the back wheels all the time on a quick takeoff in the rain with those garbage Toyos they put on the TRD sport. Those things are flat out dangerous in a Florida mid afternoon daily downpour. I got rid of those way before they were worn out.

Now it’s a lot harder to do with Michelins it has on it now.

I take it that you are new to pickup trucks and/or leaf springs. That's called axle wrap, and its why Tacomas with grippy tires aren't the best burnout vehicles.

They will definitely spin out on you, but only when you don't want to. A donut under power makes an uncomfortable bounce while straining many undercarriage parts, especially those that have published torque specifications.

I think that one of the reasons why they are such pigs is to keep people safe. After the tune, this truck gets loose much easier now.

Why would you want to slide or spin a donut in the first place? How old are you?

I'm with you on this one. I couldn't take it any more and swapped out those Toyos for Michelin LTX AT2s at about 8k miles. Night and day difference.

I hear mega timing advance, coil overs AND leaf springs, and front driveshaft delete make Tacomas the perfect burn out machines

It's not the leaf springs causing those cars to hop. Either the shocks don't have enough travel or the instant center is too high or too far back due to spring mounting location. An improperly setup 4 link or ladder bar will do the same hopping. Watched a million burnouts from leaf spring cars at the track, and proper leaf spring setups don't do that. Mine don't,and it has over 500 ft lbs of torque and a 4.57 rear gear. In the Tacoma? No idea as it never entered my mind to try lol!
