OP, honestly sounded like you really wanted a Taco in the first place...

BUT wife performed some inception, and made you start wanting a 4runner.

My advice - she has her vehicle (that I'm guessing she asked for). A nice SUV for the whole family with all the creature comforts.

Now, it's your turn. Sounded like you made a sacrifice to get her a new vehicle earlier in time, before you could get one. She has the nice SUV for the family. Do you want your next main vehicle to be a nice SUV for the family? Or do you already have a nice SUV for the family?

The new Tacomas are really nice, inside and out. The new 4runners are really nice, inside and out. But to me, it sounds like she's trying to make the decision for you (maybe she wants to be able to drive a new 4runner around while it's your main vehicle). Woman can be real great at manipulating at the right times, kick in survival instinct and go with what your gut told you in the first place! Be manly!

Really though, they're both great vehicles, I'd suggest what someone else put, trade in the highlander if it'sgoing to trouble you this much.

    Get a 4Runner with a 4L V6. The Tacoma lost it's man card when it wimped out to a 3.5L V6.

haha is that me waiting for a beatdown or the 4L beating the 3.5L?

I'm seriously contemplating getting a Runner as well. My 15 DC works for 2 car seats but I'd like a bit more room inside. My wife also has a 2011 4R and it's so comfortable. No rattles in her 5 yr old vehicle vs all the rattles in my just over a year old Taco. She's not exactly thrilled at the prospect of us both driving the same model:rolleyes:

I would be perfectly happy with a 4Runner. However, you need to highlight her exact reasoning for you not getting a truck. If its an MPG thing you will actually get better gas mileage out of a Tacoma than a 4Runner due to the engine/transmission redesign and I love the increased ride height of a truck. She already has an SUV. Do you really need 2?

Its your life, unless your wife has an absolutely solid argument, YOU should be getting the car YOU want. Unless she pays all the bills...

Just went from a 4runner to a Tundra and love the change. Sure we have less room inside the cab, but with my wife having an SUV it was pointless to have two. As long as you have a good reason for the truck bed, she will understand. We've used my bed for a ton of stuff already, so it justified it really quick.

The 4Runners are pretty sweet but if you want a truck, get a truck. Easier to get forgiveness than it is to get permission.

You did this to yourself by telling her price of 4Runner.

I would guess you get the 4Runner. You want that most I would assume by revealing a persuading point to your wife.

Rationalization is the 2nd strongest human emotion.

    Fucking look it up
Fuck the wife. If she says a man doesn't need a truck then who cares about her being happy. I'd pick one up right now and give her a middle finger to any opposing comments from the lady that says a man doesn't need a truck. Anyways I'm sure your wife is cool but seriously if you want the truck and or need the truck then get it. They also say it's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask permission. Good luck

Tackling two new Toyota vehicles will give you a lot of buying power! This might be a good idea. If the highlander is newish, Toyota will give top dollar on trade if they can pre own certify it. And prolly more pricing leverage on the new car price with two. Plus Toyota care and warranty coverage factored in, you could come out way ahead.

Do you know that besides height with the rear seats down the 4Runner has way more room than the tiny Tacoma bed? I have a couple 3x4' 1/2" thick non skid pads I throw down if I want to haul anything dirty.

Also when camping you can put a twin airbed in the back and sleep comfortably. Recently camped in Yosemite, did just that and used the tent to store all our stuff.

Every now and then throw a dead deer in the back of her highlander along with some firewood, straw, unbagged compost, anything else messy that a truck handles with ease. If your marriage survives I bet she lets u get a truck.
If you don't have any of these things laying around and it is unlikely that u will then get the runner with a little utility trailer. U prolly don't need a truck lol
Or get an sti since u "don't need a truck" and she already has the family vehicle lol that should crank her up

I am not anti Tacoma at all. I was looking for one for a while and was waiting to see what the new one would offer. I have always liked them and still do. That is why I joined this forum.

What made me go with the 4Runner was the things like 4 wheel disc brakes, power adjustable seats and the other things Toyota thinks the Tacoma doesn't need.

Sure it cost more but so far I am more than happy with my purchase. Most mods are the same which is why I am here every day.
