The way it is designed it is on the only way it can be. Sucks I waited a long time for this mount

if you took the lock portion off? and just used the regular mount that doesn't have the lock... would that give you any more clearance at all?
could you use a bungee or strap of some sort and go around the rotopax and to the inside of the tire? that would keep it from bouncing around, and without the lock it would give you a little more clearance?

Not enough that it still won't be bouncing off the tailgate over every bump. The whole tire gate assembly moves with every bump a little bit. No way to stop that. I'm not bungee cording, Mickey Mousing, putting a foam pad anywhere. Needs to be redesigned. I guess that's why I am a tester. Work out the flaws

Putting foam on it to insulate it from the tailgate would still wear the absolute shit out of your paint. More likely than not the added height of that part (with foam) would also add more depth and reduce clearance, so dents and metal damage would be more of a possibility than without it.

You just wouldn't hear it.. as much.

Here's gonna be the next issue. The high clearance version is supposed to bring the whole tire assembly up 4 inches. Once that happens the there will almost be no room to put the Rotopax handle on the gas can. Let alone the locking mechanism. Look at the pics below and now imagine it up 4 inches higher. So if you notice on our tailgate it is bowed not flat. So the higher the Hitchgate goes the more the rounded tailgate sticks out

you said that whole tire assembly moves with every bump, is this because of the rotopax mount / added weight? like did it move before you added the rotopax or was it nice and sturdy? im curious about bumps and such while offroading with it

Inertia brother, it's stuffed in a 2 inch hitch receiver with a 90 pound tire and wheel assembly in it. The Rotopax can weighs nothing it's empty

    Word.

The flaw is the single mounting point.

The higher the weight is mounted from the receiver the more movement it'll have. So to touch on that, the high clearance version will move even more than yours does now.

Only if they figure out a way to make the mount sit flush on the tire swingout arm. Otherwise no matter with this mount won't it ain't happening.

Sheee-it! Why a Rotopax? How far is the mall from the gas station?

I wonder how they're going to address flex with the HC version.

Also wondering if some bracing in this fashion wouldn't help add rigidity to your version. Would think they'd need to modify the lock pin? or whatever the red handled doohickey is, or relocate it.

But it would seem rigidity and tailgate contact is a far worse headache (design flaw) than modifying the small parts.
