Thoughts sir. I think he meant put this wedge lock in my 2 inch receiver. Then put the Hitchgate into that instead. And it will definitely move away from the tailgate enough for the gas can. To me I think that would look horrible, and would wonder of legal ramifications if I had got into an accident towing something. And they saw all the cluster of hitches

    I dunno.

Part of the aesthetic appeal is not having 12" of air space between the tailgate and tire.

Exactly why I said it would look cheesy and definitely not for me as aesthetics are a huge thing me and my truck

does turning tires to black wall out count? How bout added snug top rebel.
I think they just need to space that hole another inch or so away where the mount attaches to the receiver hitch. Or space the tire away from the truck where the tire is mounted at the top of the gate, or a combination of both.
And also address the license plate relocation so that it's not having to be removed to tighten the wedge.

I've been watching since you started the thread, looks pretty functional, I'm waiting to see what the taller version looks like.

The other quibble is adding an extension will push the load further out on what is basically a lever, so it'll be more prone to flexing, particularly at the tire where the weight is, since essentially they're using 3 separate levers in their design.

One in the receiver, the other to the hinge, the other to the mounting plate. Having that many pieces and no gusseting is flex for days.

    Word.

I'd like to see a Tacoma specific design and not using universal parts a la Lego to make something work.

I am confused by this.. so will the high clearance one shake / rattle more while going over bumps? because the whole purpose of the high clearance is to take it offroad... pointless if its going to be rattling all the time... especially after you put a rotopax mount on it.
Will there be more windrag having the tire be 4 inches higher?
will it still have the ability to tow with it on?
is better for me to just buy the solo and not put a rotopax mount on it?
will putting the extender piece to "get away from the big booty" cause it to lose towing capabilities?

    No sir. Not more.
Same tow rating all the way around.

Our SoloXL model has a 3" longer receiver shaft...it's horizontal support arm is also 5" wider. Not sure if it is too wide for the Tacoma.

The 4" rise is not coming from the support arm...but an almost 1/2" thick steel block at the bottom on the truck mount. When the testing company put over 12,000lbs on it...it didn't bend.

3,000 miles is what is recommended in the manual...almost no one does this and they very very rarely come loose when installed correctly.

I use a 9 inch extension piece, it's the 3/4 socket that won't go passed the nut for the LPRK.
