Wilco Hitchgate Solo

I'm thinking ontop of the tow hitch, or next to the license plate frame...

Hahaha well he told me of a high clearance one he is making... so I'm holding off for that hitchgate!

Will the high clearance hitch gate place the tire above the bumper and closer to the trucks tailgate? After checking out the Wilco Offroad options, I would be inclined to get the entire tailgate mount. It puts the wheel above the bumper and tighter to the truck.

I don't think it will place it closer to the tailgate as it will still have the ability to have a Rotopax can attached to it. I think the main difference will be that it won't hang down as far where the bumper is to prevent when wheeling.

 

Okay so the Rotopax mount was received and it's a no go. Installs very easy, but there is a clearance issue. Once you attach the Rotopax mount for the gas can, and just put the locking handle on Any slight movement or inertia it bangs of the tailgate. Now once you put the lock onto the handle there is maybe an 1/8 of an inch of clearance if that. And just by closing the tire swingarm it hits the tailgate causing a dent. So in no way is this mount going to work without causing damage to your tailgate, paint, and giving you constant banging noise while driving.

 

do you think putting something on the inside? like a foam padding or a foam pool tube? around the handle would work? its not like anyone would see it....

 

I guess but not my thing. The plate needs to sit flush mount with the big flat space that is there. The mount sticks out to far.

 

yeah i agree with you... is it possible to have it come out and to the side instead? or put it on the outside of the tire? that would be kinda ugly though...
