    I've got a 1996 Tacoma 4wd with a bad 2.7L motor, (8 port/ distributor)
will a 2.4L from a junkyard work, 2.7L's are hard to find and the ones i did find are a fortune, I managed to find a good little 2.4 and was wondering if the wire harness, and all connections will work without any mods,, if it's plug and play, i may opt for the 2.4L 500.00 is much better than 1300.00, thanks in advance for any help

    :D

I'm sure this question has been asked before,,,

nothing, all stock expect got a OE replacement air filter K&N.
ey my truck had the original 2.7l enine. i put in the 2.4 in there and everything plugs in play. i didn't swap it myself, had the shop did it. but i asked around and the mechanics said the 4 cycl. are interchangeble. plug and play. maybe will have to change the ecu too. but the gas milages will suck if you have bigger tires.

i'm planning to swap back to the 2.7 motor sometime soon. yeah the 2.7 does cost a fortune but i'm keeping this truck for many more years to come.

if you change the ecu, wouldn't that disable the 4wd?

I haven't check if the ecu is still the 3rz or the 2rz. But the 4wd does engage when it's in use.
