Dealer story, my 2004 Tundra was at the dealer to get the frame coated. They called me and said " your timing belt is cracked, the water pump is leaking and the rack and pinion is leaking". I yelled over the phone "You are full of shit, my local mechanic just changed the timing belt and water pump" I talked to the service manager and he could have cared less. He's not there now.

do mine myself for the '15 as I have for the last 2 tacomas and prev vehicles. Prefer to take the chance I make a mistake not someone else, but havent in 30 years of changing oil. took it in to the dealer to have them fix the key fobs and check the trans fluid as most are reporting the 2nd gens were 1/2 qt low. they refused to even check the fluid because the "light" wasn't on.

I used it when I got my 2014. But, I told them I did not want it to go through that fast lane oil change. They took it in back an serviced it. After two years were up I did it myself.

Really just comes down to whether or not you like doing it and if it's worth it to you. I love toyota care. It's cheaper for them to do it than for me to do it.

Not worth the risk in my book..........based on personal experience and all the stories of simple service turning into nightmare bullshit. Dealership will never see any of my vehicles for any maintenance needs. In the event of major failure of some high level sort covered by warranty they will. Other than that, nope.

Love the parts and service department of my local dealer. They both sponsor several offroad and autocross groups in the area and the techs have always been really cool. I've never had an issue getting an oil change or buying parts and will continue to use them until that changes. They take pride in what they do and I always leave with a warm and fuzzy feeling. Sorry you guys have had such poor experiences.

They won't give me the oil for free , the service manager says no, must be done at the dealer by certified tech....hahahaha, ok douchebag...... No sense in me wasting my time at some dealership for an oil change I suppose

..... Fuck em...I will do all the required maintenance on it my self, just like all my other vehicles and my Harley....

My FFL was a prior Toyota service tech, and he has nothing but good things to say about Toyota service despite not even working for them anymore. He's a good dude and I would want him working on my cars and if he says they are ok, I believe it. I'm sure some people have bad experiences and I'm sure some people exaggerate their experiences. I can say that through the years, I would much rather have a dealer work on my car than a Jiffy Lube or similar. To each their own.

I go through Sheehy and prior to that it was owned by Rosner, both have been excellent, very courteous, and any problems I have had they immediately address. Car is usually dropped off and completed overnight and ready for me in the morning and shuttle service if I need it.

My wife's Subaru we take to the dealer, they are awesome, have done a lot of warranty work for us and she gets a loaner for the day from them during her oil changes.

I've had that "fuck the dealer" mentality but I gotta say my dealer has been pretty damn good about taking care of my vehicle. The only complaint is that one of their advisers seems like he hates his job and goes out of his way to act like you're inconveniencing him. :sadviolin:

First I'm going to win a $400M+ powerball. Then I'm going to buy a fully equipped Gulfstream with on-board hot tub, bar and stripper pole. Load it full of booze, strippers and blow. Then I'll fly @TRDinOhio and @GPsevinSixx out to perform services on my Turd Gen bi-annually or as needed and pay them $1500 per hour for their master services.

If you lease, use Toyota Care for sure. If you buy and mod the truck and can do your own servicing at your preferred times, don't.

Do you *really* think that's not already been asked & answered several times already?

Your manual tells you what weight oil to use.

Brand is up to you for whatever makes you happy. There's a whole forum of oil-heads to tap into if you want enough information and debate to last a lifetime.

The question needs to be re-framed... Will Toyota Care be taking advantage of you?

I mean, did you yell before you confirmed they were wrong? Your local mechanic could have ephed up with the replacements. I know that isn't what happened, but it sounds like you went off half cocked before you really knew they were full of shit.

I'll probably just have them do all the oil changes honestly. They only charge ~$50. I cant do it for much cheaper myself. The service manager I have and his team have already proven they can replace my differential so I'm sure they can do an oil change.

I know some people like to use special brands of oil so they do it themselves but all I've heard is bulletproof this bulletproof that, so it better be ok with whatever oil Toyota recommends....
