I will be looking at a 2003 Tacoma today. It's a Dbl Cab, V6, auto trans, Limited Edition (NON TRD).

It is from a private seller. They are the second owner.
It has 49,000 miles and they are asking $15,500
    I think $15,500 is a high price.

What would be a good price to offer if it is a clean truck?

I think I can negotiate them down a bit.
The seller just bought a 2010 Tacoma Dble cab and are now selling their 2003.

I'm going to purchase the 10 carfax's and check this 2003 out after this post.

The warranty has expired, (3 yr/36,000 miles) for basic
and (5 yr/60,000 miles) for drivetrain.

I will mention that when offering a price. I will check out the vehicle the best that I can and take it for a test drive.

Is the ball Joint recall just for the 01 to 04 4x4 or all 1st gens?

I bought a 95 Tacoma 4x4 AccCab brand new when they first came out. It was sunfire red with a manual trans. That was a great truck.
Sold it after 6 mths becuase it just wasn't big enough for me at the time.
I ended up going with a Ford that served me well with the engine but everything else fell apart on it for the 9 yrs that I owned it.
Looking forward to owning a Tacoma again.

EDIT: I just ran the CARFAX report for this 2003. It only shows 4 reports:

1.) It shows that it was a lease when first purchased. (I'm not liking that)
2.) Title issued to first owner.
3.) Emmisions inspection 37,854 miles (passed)
4.) Emmisions inspection at 47,903 miles (failed) then Emmisions inspection (passed)

I find it odd for it to fail emmisions inspection right at the time the second owner bought it from a Toyota dealership (Longo Toyota) and with only 47,903 miles on it. This is starting to smell sour. I don't think a lease is taken care of nearly as well as a true owner would have.
It doesn't show transfer of ownership to second owner? (What's up with that)
It shows that it has a clean title with no accidents

    5100's all on fours
A 4wd comes in at about $14,800 and a Pre-runner comes in at about $14,000. That's excellent condition on KBB.com using the 90001 area code.

I wouldn't worry about it failing the emissions. I could have bad an bad gas cap or O2 sensor. It is still in the Fed warranty period of 8yrs/80,000 miles for the CAT.
