My sister rear-ended a flatbed tow truck at low speed. She was waiting to turn right and assumed she was clear after the truck "passed" her, but he was turning left into parking lot and she bumped him. She doesn't want to fix it, so I have a chance to buy it for around $1000. The bumper, driver fender, light, and hood need replacement. What I am concerned about is alignment issues when putting on the new hood. I can see that the driver side hood support has been pulled and tore halfway in the middle. I am not worried about perfect body lines; I just want to make sure hood will close properly. It's a 2006 Honda civic ex, which was purchased new by my mom and only has 89,000 miles on it. I think it's worth saving, but not if I have to pay a body shop. My plan is just to buy new unpainted CAPA certified parts, slap them on, and drive it as is. I can probably get pics on here later.

Did the impact miss everything important, like the radiator and A/C condenser? I'm also guessing that the air bags did not deploy?

Everything looks ok. It seems she just hit it in the sweet spot; where the hood, fender, bumper points meet and F'd it up. No airbag deployment. She has been driving it for over a month as it is. I even drove it today and you wouldn't know it was in an accident by the way it drives.

As long as the radiator support or that support area under the fenders are not bent, then I don't see any reason why the hood would be out of alignment, especially since your saying the car does not feel like it has been in a wreck under normal driving conditions...

I got two pictures. I actually don't need a front bumper.

Because the car will be worth less due to the accident, perhaps that means Connecticut won't charge you as much for the property tax on your vehicle!

Seriously though, I thought the damage was much worse!

LOL. More like, I will get charged an unsightly car tax! Yea, it doesn't look bad, but I figured I'd ask because sometimes when you pull things off you discover other damage.

I might acutally bang it out for now, so I can get a new headlight in there.

Car tax is one of main reasons I will not live in Connecticut or Virginia!

It really is ridiculous. I thought I out-smarted them by leasing a new car, since I don't own it, but goddam leasing company auto-bills me every year! They don't care what your car looks like. If you bought a car with a toasted motor for $500, they will tax you for the avg. book value. So, the key is to buy a cheap car. Hence, why I am going to buy my sister's civic.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
I would snatch that right up and keep an eye out for a new front clip from a salvage yard.

I have my eye out now and will wait and see what I find before just buying new primered parts. The first thing I am doing is getting the hood open. The latch is bent and can't open. Then I will hammer out the fender and hood the best I can to get a new headlight in there. It also needs tires bad. As you can tell, my sister takes care of her car.....

You referring to your suspension? I was asking about the body panel alignment. But, I did do the same thing that you did with my Nissan Versa. Hit the curb and did $2000 worth damage.

You shouldn't need to bang.... you can just use your hands and bend most of that back. Lol

True, but if he just wants to get a light on there and wait on other salvage/used parts. That will work, very little hammering if needed.
