Will my 2018 OR fit in a parking garage with 6' 3" max height clearance?

    Hi all,

I checked the spec sheet for my 2018 OR, and its height is listed at 70.6". Everything is factory stock.

There is an underground parking garage I want to use with a max height restriction of 6' 3" ( = 75" total).

Will I be ok to park in this garage? I am not sure if this is leaving enough breathing room for tolerances in the truck and/or garage, nor am I sure if the 70.6" listed height on my truck includes the antenna or not.

Don't want to bang up my roof. Thank you.

As long as it’s on a factory height, it will fit. I have a 21 OR. I had the same concern when I went to this underground garage (6’3). I thought i was going to get stuck. I was looking up while crawling slowly. Even if you know for sure it fits, you will still look up and move slowly. It really feels you are cramped up while driving inside a short garage.

Full take of gas, air down to 18 psi. Punch the gas and slam on the brakes, when you go in and aat all of the low hanging spots. You should be good.

If stock, it will fit. My 2007 w/ a 3” lift and 1” bigger tires, the antenna hit at my work’s parking structure. I don’t mind b/c it’s a flexible antenna. But the newer shark fin antenna, it’s bad.

Your best bet is, measure your truck and compare. There’s a low profile shark fin replacement you can buy. Or, cut the fin short and fill it with epoxy. There’s a few people done that already here on TW.

My 2018 OR fits in my 6’2” underground, shark fin and all. Stock height. Although, the first time I took it in was a bit dicey, even though I had measured a couple times.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Here's a novel thought: Measure it.
Tape measure + a 4' level sitting on the fin.

Take one measurement from the ground to the square tube on the headboard. Get in the bed and take a second measurement from the square tube to the top of the sharkfin. Add the two measurements together. Ideally do it with an almost empty fuel tank and full pressure in the tires, to get the worst-case scenario.

Repeat after any mods like a suspension lift or bigger tires.

My truck with 3" lift and 35" tires measured out to 77.8", so stock should be close to 72.8". That means the owner's manual spec doesn't include the sharkfin.

I just measured my 2021 OR a few min ago, stock, and it’s shy of 72” to the top of the antenna. Measure your parking structure to confirm the clearance height. Most of the time they give a lower measurement reading on purpose.

Ditto on the above: "It's bad...." is an understatement. (IMO) That Shark Fin antenna is a very costly item/part to replace; never mind the labor! The one on my 2014 leaked the first downpour after I drove it home from the dealer last June. (2 days) The dealer was excellent about replacing it, but it took two tries to get it completely water-tight. There wasn't a mark on it, (I checked it) but it wasn't sitting perfectly flush on the roof either. I suspect an automated car-wash after it was traded in. There was no evidence of a prior or long term leak above the headliner or on the bulkhead or carpeting below the rear seats; I saw it when they had the entire interior out, including the seats, carpets and headliner to dry it completely out. I'm glad it happened quick and I was out there to see it leaking in real time. It's a crazy-ridiculous priced part. (see below)

So re: low ceiling: "Know before you go." Just because it says: "6.3" on the sign, doesn't mean the contractor got it right throughout the entire structure, or the guy who certified the height didn't have a bad day, or that structure hasn't settled in spots or survived an earthquake unscathed. If you hear a scraping noise along the roof above your head: It's going to ruin your day! YMMV.

I’m 6’3” tall and I’ve never hit my head walking in a parking garage. I can’t imagine one with that low of clearance.

Design / fab together a Truckers Storie pole/ stick with square tubing ( truckers use this type of pole to measure overall height of a load ) . Fab it together in a L shape with the 90° bend at 6'3" max height . Then place the storie stick against the truck with the horizontal piece over the tallest part of your truck

This stick will give you an accurate overall height of your truck for the low parking garages overall height

pay attention to ramps going up and down in the garage. They will change approach and departure angles and could easily cause interference.

If you go fast enough......you'll only hit once.

Typically, parking structures have a clearance bar at the entrance. If you don't hit the clearance bar, then your good.

Are there low hanging pipes attached to the ceiling of the garage? I had a clear passage through a parking garage once but then backed up and found out there were even lower pipes than the stated clearance on the sides of the ceiling, bent one of the bike trailer wheels that was up on my roof rack.

To be sure, you really need to use a spotter. Forget depending on measurements and our opinions when you are there.
