    Hi all,
I am new to this forum and had a question about the Toyota Tacoma. I apologize if this thread is not in the appropriate section but i was wondering if the release of the 2016 toyota tacoma later this year will drop the price of the 2015 toyota tacoma. I live in Washington state and was wondering if I could wait a couple months to expect a price reduction.

    Thanks.

Probably not. Tacomas hold their value extremely well. I doubt the release of a new one would change the value very much if at all.

It's a fair question, but it's been talked about heavily in some other "2016" threads.

Seems logical that they would offer some discounts on the leftover 2015s to clear the dealer lots for the new truck, but I remember when the 2005s came out, EVERYBODY wanted a 2004. Toyota (like usual) didn't NEED to offer incentives to move old inventory.

Pretty sure it'll be the same way this time. Don't expect great deals on a truck that sells well at MSRP

Back in 2006, I found a dealer that had two leftover 04 DC Off-Road models sitting right next to the new 2nd gens. Dealer still wanted full sticker price for each.

Seeing how ugly the 3rd gen is, not likely to lower the price when everyone will be running to buy up the last of the '15s:D

No one knows for sure of course. But the general consensus is "probably not" or at least "not much".

Dealers will always be able to sell a desirable Tacoma quickly. Plenty of people prefer a 2015 to a 2016 that they will sell all the 2015s with ease.

Now, it is certainly possible for an unusual configuration of a Tacoma to end up on a dealer lot and they have trouble moving that particular truck. People find nice deals all the time, not even at the end of the model year. A truck not moving is a problem for a dealer at any time of the year. Come the end of 2015 production will there be more or fewer of these "hard to sell" trucks on lots? I haven't the foggiest. The better question is are you willing to compromise on what configuration you want to pick up a truck the dealer is trying to get rid of? Yes - you can probably get a better deal, even right now. No - you'll likely pay "normal" price (this is right around invoice, not MSRP, after including all the dealer fees) regardless of when you buy the truck. Allocations are almost over for 2015 trucks, so if you have a particular configuration you want that is uncommon the waiting means you won't find that configuration...

My money says no. A brand new truck isn't going to lose value, they might be more inclined to lower the price in negotiation to move it off their lot being that the model year has changed, but the answer is still no.

The 2016 is so vastly different than the previous generation that people will either really want a new 2015 or really want a new 2016, both crowds will have to spend money.

New vehicle is a new vehicle.

I think you will likely get a deal on the financing on the 2015.

If anything, it might cause dealers to hold pricing at higher rates. Just look at what the FJ Cruiser Market is doing.

The FJ Cruisers are no longer being sold, which is creating a demand for any remaining new ones.

Just like the 15's wont be sold new anymore. Demand is demand. Same thing happened as someone mentioned with the 1st to 2nd Gen sales. Would expect the same pricing/deals as current come 2016s hitting lots, there shouldnt be many 2015s left and Toyota will likely offer special financing like they do with end of year tundras.

most likely not at all. i'm sure they've planned their allocations and the demand is such the dealers won't have to move much on the price. that being said, if you know how to buy a car, the price will be the same, since the dealers not going to lose money on a car - you should be able to get it for the same markup. in fact, there could be people wanting the older one and a short term increase in demand for the 2015 - just enough to make them more expensive.

Could be, but the FJ is a very different animal that is being completely discontinued. So that is probably a more extreme case.

Wacky stuff can happen though. Back when gas was over $4/gal and then right after the tsunami in Japan the market for Prius went bonkers. You simply couldn't get a new one unless you had been on the wait list forever already - very few were coming from Japan after the tsunami. So often a used Prius would cost *more* than a new one cause it was the only way to effectively "jump the line".

Anyway - as said, no one knows for sure right now. Will be curious to watch the "what did you pay for" thread this fall!

At least at our local dealer it hasn't. They recently got a ton of 2015 models out to sell. I bought mine last September and the window MSRP for my 2015 OR access cab back then is the same as an SR5 v6 with a convenience package. That does not mean that's what they will get but at least starting, the prices have gone up. There are no deals yet. Even when the 2016s arrive this fall, there will be just a few and the bulk will not arrive at most dealers until the calendar year of 2016. Until then, don't expect any more drop in price then you did in a non change over year. I would just wait till January of 2016 and hope the slow buying month would help local discounts.

Since you mention it, that tsunami f'd Toyota very badly. Most of their serious R&D was in Japan. Toyota took a major hit for engine development.

I feel like it depends on how the 2016 actually drives and is in person. My guess is probably not or very minimally.

I'd expect to see the 2016 come in at a higher price to begin with. The Colorado (the Taco's only real competitor) is like $35k to $36k for their Z71 package (basically like a TRD Off Road). The Tacoma is cheaper right now.

So when the 2016 Tacoma comes out, with a smaller engine, better fuel economy, and more horsepower? Why wouldn't Toyota bump it's price up to match the Colorado? They'll still win in market share.

I would think it's possible, but thats if they have left over inventory when the 16's arrive.

Depending on where you are though...theres rarely left over inventory. The dealership I bought from keeps 8-10 Tacomas on hand. Every week they have a completely new Tacoma inventory.

Actually, when I was buying the salesman told me if I didn't like what they have to just come back in a week and stock will be completely different lol.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Because first gens rock! I'd have been all over those if I was old enough to drive and had the money back then.
