Buyers also look at the Frontier. Though I suspect many regard it as a stop down vs. the Tacoma its still an option especially if the price is much lower.

Good point and I have heard this as well. Although I have not looked into it myself, I have heard from a few people the 2016 is expected to be 3-5k more sticker price. So if a 2015 TRD sport is say 32k and a 2016 is 35-37k, Toyota won't have much of a reason to drop the price.

I think the Frontier is already the truck for a bargain hunter, and will remain so until the new one is released (depending on its improvements). I tested the Colorado, Tacoma, and Frontier. The Frontier had a few more of the creature comforts, but overall was disappointing compared to either the Chevy or Tacoma.

Not likely but possible. Our Tacoma's hold there value. The new 3rd generation soon to arrive is ugly to me outside and inside so that also could have some affect on things.Just my 2 cents.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
Very unlikely, if anything 2gen may go down the history as most expensive used truck in history.
With 2016 no more supercharger, no more 4.0L Tacoma with Land Cruiser Engine. No more simple truck. This is why 1gen 2004 costs more than 2005 2gen.
With 05-08 getting new frames they will outlive 09-15 Trucks.
Chances of 2016 getting some crazy improvement are now slim to none. With the size of 2gen the same as 2016 and a lot of parts from 2016 fitting into 2gen you will be able to buy simple truck and move interior exterior things that you like to it with out spending 40K on new truck.

Not bad, I had to negotiate a while and got about $3000 off MSRP. If they won't budge on that price, I wouldn't really call it a "price drop," more of a sales tactic since a lot of people have been getting 2-3k off for a while (from what I have seen). If they will come down another 2-3k, then I would start calling it a price drop.

My local dealership has 3 in stock, and are unsure if they'll see more than a dozen a month before the 16s enter production. Tundras will go on sale long before Tacomas will.

I highly doubt the resale value of Gen 2's will be affected by the release of Gen 3 trucks. As the price of new vehicles continues to increase, many people will continue to seek out used ones.. supply and demand will maintain the high resale value of the Tacoma.

I need a truck asap, as my current family vehicle is 15 years old. I figured I'd buy a used Tacoma and use it for 2 or 3 years before buying a new Gen 3, DCLB. For my $7000 budget, the best I could find was a 1997 2 door, 2 seater, 4 cylinder, manual tranny, with 240,000 miles. That's insane! Maybe it's because I'm looking in Colorado. :dunno I'll wait till the new one comes out.
