Where are you getting information regarding the coilovers.... stage one and stage two offer the same amount of lift per the websites. I believe it's the same coilover, the only difference would be the extended travel version if that applies

Ok I just double-checked on Headstrong and it does say's both stage 1 coilovers and stage 2 are 0-3.5" but on Bilsteinlifts.com it says the stage 1 icons are only 0-3" of lift. Not sure if those are different coilovers on their stage 1 kit or if its just their mistake.

Be aware that when you get into and over that 3" range you will need to start entertaining UCAs and a carrier bearing drop.
Sounds like we have a similar situation going. I have a shell and a platform in the back. Also sliders, front recovery bar, roof rack. So some extra weight.
You are in OR. How close is Wheeler's to you?

How do you feel about the SPC's? Trying to keep the price down, but if its really necessary then I will go with the Total chaos or even the Icon Uniball's. Also, will I need the UCA's if I stay at 3" or below?

I don't know much about those.
If I need UCAs, I am going to put a set of JBAs in.

Those are a very popular option around here and quite a few people run them.

If you are concerned about keeping the ass from sagging in the rear, have you considered Sumo Springs? I am not uber familiar with them, but they seemed designed to prevent sagging under load while not screwing up ride quality. Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I think what you do is add your chosen AAL/shock combo, and then the Sumo's replace the bump stops, and help you retain your chosen ride quality and most of the height under load.

Also, why did you choose Fox shocks in the rear? I have read that something digressive like the Icon's in the rear are more well suited to handling additional loads vs desert racing like the progressive setups.

Note: Not an expert. Just throwing out ideas that come to mind based on what I have come across.

Haven't looked at sumo springs much, but just seems like they're replacement bump stops that make riding on bump stops not as harsh.

    Like a softer bump stop?

Didn't seem to effect anything that prevents sagging under load. Just makes sagging under load less bumpy.

^ hmm, that is counter to what I am finding. They seem designed to reduce squat under load, though it does appear they may add about 5/8" of lift with a progressive rate of control.

    (edit: wrong first link)

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/gen-3-towing-thread.413026/page-10#post-12292226

That said, since they only attach on one side (not top *and* bottom), I wonder if you do lift via AAL if the Sumo's don't touch until their "reach" is met. Thus, they don't impact ride quality on a small lift until the truck is under load? And then at that point, they provide protection from sag underweight with a progressive response. Not entirely certain, but my quick poking around points in this direction.

So if I am right, if the Sumo's attach at one point, if the truck is lifted via AAL (or whatever) beyond ~5/8", the Sumo's won't change ride quality until the shock/AAL in the rear is compressed for that 5/8" and the Sumo's begin to compress. Seems a good solution to retain ride quality with a small lift yet retain load capacity to me. If I am understanding correctly.

Couple of questions for you all. I have an Icon Stage 2 kit and when I installed the 3 leaf AAL I left the overload out as instructed. Love the ride but have since changed directions with the use of the truck. The truck does 600-1200 freeway miles a month mainly unloaded but now will also be running a RTT with all the associated gear 6-8 times a year. This thing will be going into bro lean mode fast when loaded.
Will I gain anything by adding the overload back in? Or are new leafs in my future? What would you all recommend for this type of use? I would like the nicest ride unloaded but no bro lean when loaded.

    Thanks!

I have had my overload retained after AAL 3 leaf from the getgo. The ride has been good to me and all passengers who have entered in my truck. That being said, the factory leafs are not known for their high strength capabilities. You have one of two options, retain the overload back into the setup and ride on it for some time until they wear out or replace it immediately for some custom high strength ones, Dakars, Deaver or similar. Truthfully, If I may, I would suggest you look into the route of airbags, as it may be the most viable option for you. As you do not want to be riding on the bump stops the entire time.

As for your stock pack, how many miles do you have on it? That is a large factor as well because you don't want them breaking on you while you are driving simply because they are fatigued and riding the bumps would accelerate them wearing out.

Roberto, thank your for the comments. 11k on the stock pack. I have researched the airbag route and they are a viable option. If I do this I think I would add the overload back in as well. In the end though, high strength leaf packs are probably the end solution. At this point I think I'll add the overload back in, evaluate and go from there.
