Will Toyota ever integrate technology like Ford has done?

i would not want onstar. i don't like the thought of someone being able to take control of my truck whenever they want, much less be able to turn on the microphone and listen whenever they want.

Look how many of us have modified our trucks. Look at the threads that ask for how-to's on putting LED in the cup holders, illuminating 4x4 switch, adding backup cameras, installing bluetooth....hell...just look at the head units being put in our trucks - even iPads.

MOST people want technology. I'm sure Apple and Google would confirm that. Yes, there will always be "old timers" only wanting the basics but the younger generations want technology integrated into their vehicles. It is exactly why Ford and GM are doing it.

and though I would like more tech in my truck...durability is exactly why I bought the Tacoma. At least we got the AUX port so I can use my MP3 player w/out an oldschool FM tranny.

I'd sure like to know how they justify not having RDS (Radio Data System) in all of their stock radios.

It's been around for the better part of two decades. It is just silly and cheap that they would not include it.

I'm not really against it...Just amused that there is such a huge disparity in what people want from vehicles.

I personally would rather install my own custom solutions for anything I want...Dealers will cost too much and not ever be exactly the right fit. My grandparents have OnStar- Love the GPS Hate the Phone. They could have saved a few bucks and gotten a standalone GPS and a regular radio/rear view mirror. No subscription fees either.

I also think there is a line. There is a reason that texting and driving is illegal in so many places...It's because the technology made it easier for people to "stay connected" and now they MUST BE CONNECTED AT ALL TIMES!! Really-They need to drive and check Facebook or twitter later.

Honestly I hope they don't. Technology is nice and all in a car but I like simplicity. I'm content with a gps and that's about it

I must say after reading all these post's that Toyota should at least offer more as an option. I wanted and got my truck with the bluetooth feature (which was hard to find btw) and I know I could have saved on the price and added it aftermarket, but my understanding is that the aftermarket bluetooth doesn't work as good as far as the mic/voice works. I guess it is all in the placement of the mic. But the bottom line is that there were a lot better options out there for the technology packages that I considered. The big factor that did lead me to the Yota was the size of the truck and the fact I have always wanted a Toyota 4x4. The F150 with the new engine line up is supposed to get the as good mpg and has the better tech package, but part of the factor was the size of the vehicle, I can fit both cars in the garage. Wouldn't have been able to with an F150.

What I am saying is that I believe Toyota would/could get more sales with a better technology package.

I find it interesting that Toyota is currently the world's #1 auto manufacturer, in spite of their being slightly behind the curve with certain bells & whistles. (Perhaps my priorities are not so unusual, after all...)

I've never been into bells and whistles and special gadgets. All I'm interested in is a dependable vehicle that I can put hundreds of thousands of miles on with minimal problems. I guess that's why I bought a Toyota.

What are the odds of you using OnStar? IMO, OnStar is based on fear. I dont live my life that way. However, if your on the road a lot I can understand a business using it since they can write it off of taxes. However, I had a GF who locked her keys in the car so much that the locksmith knew her by name. She NEEDED OnStar, but for me I don't need it. Alway thought it was scam by GM to make money.
