Mine was an impulse buy too. I love the truck though. However, variety is the spice of life... who knows what truck I'll get next :) But really, its hard to say. In 5 years, when I'm ready for another one, I'll have to go with whats right at the time. Plus, in 5 years, I'm sure there will be plenty of other options. Now, if you asked if I would buy another one right now, I'd probably say yes

    Just bought a 2nd one.
Decided I needed a 4 wheel drive and sold my 2 wheel drive to my son.
So I guess I voted Yes indeed.

I'm currently on my 4th Tacoma (3 first gens and 1 second gen) and I'd have no problems buying another.

When it is time for a new truck I will see what is available and weigh how those meet my needs. I would not be surprised if it was another Tacoma, but i will not just blindly say 'hell yes.'

    New ranger spy shots....
"[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]As for the Ranger itself, the redesigned model is said to be about the same size as today’s model, but will ride a new “T6” global small-truck platform now being developed by Ford Australia. Stay tuned."
Probably why it looks like the Hilux.

I love my Tacoma, yes it has had a few problems, but overall it has been a solid performer for me. Many of the issues that i have had were because i added aftermarket parts to the truck, so that can not be blamed on quality of Toyota. Sure i wish the sound deadening material existed, and the springs are weak, and yes the tailgate is weak, but i have 130,000 miles on my 05 and the only thing that i have had to replace was a light in the dash, and that was under warranty. I would like to get a new one, but I like many others want to see what the 3rd generations will turn out like. Then we will be complaining about the issues on the third gens, talking about how great our second gens were.

Who knows? Why would I blindly commit to buying another Tacoma when I don't know what will be on the market in 5+ years from now. Toyota quality could fall off the edge of a cliff and another manufacturer may make a better product.

It really all depends on what's out when I'm in need of a new vehicle.

IMO, not enough quality answers for the poll. Only one no, and it's a very harsh answer. People buy vehicles for many reasons... weird thread...

I'm not sure what you are looking for in the way of input. I thought that I pretty much said where the obvious problems are without going into a long disertation. I guess it if I had to put in general terms, the overall quality of materials is no where near what it was in the first generation Tacomas. You can see it in the thinness of sheetmetal, the use more and more plastics in areas that require the strenth of steel (Don't get me wrong here, I'm not opposed to the use of plastics because engineered plastics are very good, but to use them in places of high stress is simply cost cutting at the expense of quality).

In addition, we are seeing more and more warranty issue complaints popping up with dealers refusing to fix the problem. They make the customer "Prove" that there is a problem and, even then, ther are numberous complaints about them not being willing to do anything. This sort of dealer service was unheard of from Toyota dealers 6 years ago.

    I hope this helps.

    Norm.

For me, I plan on keeping my current truck for a long time yet, For my next vehicle though, I figure three possible options, Number one is get a 3rd gen Tacoma with 4x4. number two is a Tundra 4x4 and number three is a FJ cruiser. Either way my next vehicle will likely be a Toyota.

Instead of a new Tacoma, I would rather have a turbo-diesel Hilux.

    Long answer
The way I look at it I have been buying Toyota's for over 30 years and would continue but Toyota is heading in a different direction then what made them popular with people like me.
They are busy chasing the Soccer Moms, Mall Crawlers, and the guys who don't mind spending Thousands upon thousands to make the vehicle off road capable.
In the past you bought a truck and other then a new set of tires you were good to go straight off the showroom floor, but now before even buying a decent set of tires you first you need to install a lift, new UCA's to get alignment back in specs, trim and beat the shit out of pinch welds and body mounts, remove the bullshit joke of mudflaps, and then you also need to remove and replace the bumpers that destroy any chance of having a decent approach or departure angle.
After all that you get to plead your case with some idiot service manager about performing all TSB's in one visit so you don't lose more then a couple days of work.

    Short Answer

    No
