I've owned 2 Nissans prior, one was bad, so I bought a 2009 Tacoma, it was great. Now I have a 2010, and it sucks.
The idea that the frontier not being as good, depends on priorities. If durability is #1, it has advantages. (Rear diff, frame, transmission)

Loved my 2006 D-Cab Sport for nearly 4 years then sold it. Only bitch I had was that the turn signal lens melted in the center. I got bored with it and sold it to fix my 1st Gen instead. As for purchasing another 2nd Gen.... Maybe another 2006 though I'll wait to see what the next Gen will be like. I'll keep the 1st Gen fer-sure.

Meh, Fronty's have plenty of known issues as well (radiator, timing chain, fuel sensor, etc).

The Frontier being more durable is questionable. Their fully boxed frame is supposedly thinner metal than the Tacoma's C-channel portions?

I'd say the two are mostly on par, have different strengths, different weaknesses.

Wow, radiator timing chain and fuel sensor, easily fixed problems.

The Frontier being more durable is questionable. Their fully boxed frame is supposedly thinner metal than the Tacoma's C-channel portions?

The Frontier frame is from the F-Alpha chassis, to even suggest that the Tacomas frame is close is pure nonsense.
Hint: why do Frontiers weigh 5% more?;)

Obviously there's more material there. Your implication that all 5% is extra frame may or may not be the case.

Frankly I don't know the rigidity or breaking strengths on either the Taco or the Fronty frame, so you'd have to dig up some engineers for me to ask.

Fully boxed is not always more durable however.

When you get to be my age ....;);)....what you have owned and been "owned by" will show how smart you actually were......

Toyota has been the family transportation since '81 and we have put over 1/2 million miles on them.....with a few Fords spec'd in there due to ignorant Toyota dealers:mad:;).....

Now that my '02 Tacoma has been re-framed it will last till my grand daughter owns it ;)....why trade it???

Right now we are looking for a "family cruiser"....(slightly mod'd 4-runner) and to replace a Camry with 157k........

YES ,all makes have problems BUT HOW THEY HANDLE IT is what grows LOYALTY.....

My 2 cents and before it is spoken....kool-aide cracks can be "Stuffed";):D

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .

I had a 2006 Frontier and it was an excellent truck and not much Q/C difference than my 2009 Tacoma IMO. Tailgate was a lot stronger than my present Tacoma.

My wife dropped Toyota for Honda ... and I do believe that Toyota (including Tacoma) still has a slight edge on Nissan for now.

I will buy another Taco if Q/C is good and maybe a diesel is on the menu.

Don't know if the quality is slipping. My 05 has 147,000 miles & only had my first repair a couple of weeks ago. None of the american made crap I have owned over the years, has ever gone that long before needing expensive repairs. This is the only vehicle I have owned that made it to 100k miles without costly repairs.

Hell yes I would buy another Tacoma!

Even a problematic Taco is more economical, dependable and just nice to have than my Land Rover Disco II was. Land rovers, although luxurious and off road kings, are broke every 5 freaking minutes. Doesn't matter they can go everywhere, as they cannot carry every possible part for every possible break down every 5 minutes.

    Future Taco yes.

Too, I haven't had too many issues with my Taco ( radio, alignment out when new, still have that floor mat recall to do, maybe some others by now ) and the exhaust sounds like a tin can, but that's it, besides the radio is still junk as are the speakers.

if i was in the market for a mid size truck, the Tacoma would be the most likely purchase....but i expect to drive this truck for anouother 5+ years...at which point, who knows what will be on the market or what modd i will be in when it's time to replace it.

After a Ford , Dodge and a Chevy , i bought this Tacoma. Problems , well , yea? The problems are small when compared to the other 3 trucks. I'm sure theyre not as good as previous Generations.

So why wont I buy another Tacoma? ..... I'm hoping this one doesnt need replaced anytime soon ...next 20 years like. Only time and maintainance will settle that question.

I do alot of whining on this forum about my Tacoma and its quality issues.

I'm really just trying to catch Toyota attention so they don't think they can put out a crappy product and get away with it.
The Tacoma can be the best mid sized out there. I hope they don't screw it up with their corporate games just to make a quick buck.
