I have a Fab fours Matrix bumper. I am trying to get a winch. I'm wondering if I'm limited to just the Warn Evo Winch or if any other would fit with limited medication. Sounds like the Evo winch requires me to Get a relocating mount kid that runs. Does anyone have this bumper with a winch they can advise on?upload_2024-6-30_21-54-28.png

There install sheet reads like any winch will work but they recommend the Warn. Also reads like you'd only need the relo kit if putting in a light bar too.

the SDHQ hidden mount specifically only mentions the evo as well.

but my harbor freight badlands winch bolted right up without issue. for the most part, stick with the same capacity/size winch, and the mounting bolts will maintain the same spacing.

after that, there's numerous pro's/con's to each brand and valuation. to be generic--hf, or Amazon winches will be made cheaper, primarily by being designed to be used less--ie: lots of youtube offroad recovery personalities are using the hf winch with great success, but in situations where they're driving 1-4 hours, recovering a vehicle, maybe 2-3 pulls, and then they drive back--so the winch has tons of time to cool down again between uses.

the higher cost winches should be more over-built, and generally the extra cost is going to go into a design spec that intends the winch to be used nearly non-stop full time. though that said, some of those youtube personalities specifically talk about how they used to only use high dollar winches, only to be happier with the quality and consistency of the hf winch--many of which ended up getting one winch for free to play with, and then outfitting the other 4+ vehicles in their fleets with the hf winch with out-of-pocket money. YMMV.

regardless of your brand selection, you'll need some sort of relocation kit for the relay/control box stuff. there's not a ton of room around the oem crossmembers, and modifying those parts aren't at all recommended. there's a few different official mounting options for those, and there's also the more custom mounting options like what i did-- opening up the control enclosure and gutting the critical components to individually mount them.

Harbor Freight bandlands winches are great value.

The Apex series have the controller relocation kit (basically longer wires from winch to controller) included

If you're planning to use a winch "non-stop full time"- you're doing it wrong. :crapstorm:

correct, but does depend on how one does it. i made my own custom-length jumpers out of larger gauge wire for less loss.
