Thanks, I wasn’t aware of an official name but I could see it happening. Stagnant standing water is really destructive, it will eventually eat through everything and make its way down. I’m in the South with no road salts. I couldn’t imagine doing this somewhere where you may get salt thrown up in there and sitting.

As a person who did the pool noodle a while ago, I wanted to check back in to attest that I still love this cheap mod. Since the back of the cab and the front of the bed are corrugated, I don't fear crevice corrosion even though I smashed it in above the 90° lip of the back of the cab.
I moved it around this past weekend and some dried up flowers and small monkeypod leaves may have gotten trapped, but that ain't any different than what ends up in the cowl and hood drain areas here in HI.
For what it is worth, I still have noico left over from doing my doors, but I still don't want to do my back wall because the pool noodle blocks the road noise from hitting those vents so easily. And I am lazy and don't want rip apart the back seat area with a car seat in place there to carry around my precious cargo.
    Toodles!

be careful with that. make sure it's secured well. I had a piece of cardboard fall between the gap and it caught on fire once it was close to the exhaust. saw flames going over the roof of the cab in my rear view mirror. That was a nice hit of adrenaline. had a case of beer and used a couple to put it out... Luckily caught it pretty quickly but still $1800 in damage.

I knocked this out today on mine using your pics and the Amazon link you provide downstream. It's a very noticeable difference and a pleasing one at that. Thanks for the "sound" advice.
Oof, that was a middling dad joke there and I'm not even a dad.

Nice mod! I just ordered some weather stripping and a pool noodle. Will install this weekend.

My 2,000 mile drive next week may be the perfect test. Keep you posted on installation and test results.

Not entirely accurate. A 10db increase is 10x louder.

    Very underrated comment so far.

$3 pool noodle to reduce noise a couple of dBs could cause a $30,000+ vehicle fire if care is not taken.

Dang, dude. I guess I missed that reply. This can't be a regular occurrence. I wonder if there's a way to mitigate that from happening. Maybe by sticking pool noodles along the entire gap between the cap and bed.

I haven’t had any issues with mine. Despite 3 winters of ice off the roof and tonneau falling on top of it, it’s still in the same place

Well, you could always try expanding foam instead..

I wound up removing mine after a few months. There wasn't any suggestion of paint rub where it was, but I also didn't want to tempt fate with it collecting dirt.

The 6 dB rule works for voltage because power scales with V^2/R if your circuit is Ohmic. Decibels are intended to compare quantities already in units of power, so the rule is every 3 dB is a doubling of power.

Sorry to bring this old one up but did it mess with the drain at all?

    Good evening,
I read your post and might have just missed it, but where exactly did you install the weather stripping? And can you price pictures?

    thank you!

Put pool noodle in on Aril 24th at 6800 miles. Currently at 76398 miles on another continent. Zero issues no movement no truck fire no rub marks nada.

109833 miles. Pool noodle is still in. No issue at 92 degrees in Paraguay. So for the naysayers, that’s over 103k miles in 10 months. There’s no rust on my cab paint is still there and it hasn’t worn a hole in the bed.

Stuff the noodle with yerba mate and the cab will get quieter
