I was thinking about adding some Dynamat and upgrading the stereo in the near future and will definitely be doing this in the meantime! Thanks for the great idea!

Ruminator, I stopped where I did because, 1- I believe that most noise/ wind entered from the front by the bolt to the back top of the rear window/door. 2- I thought that adding more weather-stripping down the door frame could possibly make the rear door harder to close.

After reading this I had to check my radio volume. It was 44 and pleasantly audible above the roar of the mud terrains. I do have old ears too. I doubt I would find 15 audible sitting still.

I don’t care for road noise when daily driving, but I can’t stand to not be able to hear the truck off road. I shut the radio off and roll down the windows even when it is below freezing.

I’m surprised some weather stripping made such a difference, but I’ve also never attempted such a thing.

That's exactly what I did to mine too. (except for the jump seats) What a difference. Well worth the effort. Now I'm considering the weather strip item too. Lexus, here I come.

Hmmm I wonder if this will also fix the crosswind kazoo sound? I currently have 1/4" tubing behind the weatherstripping in the doors. I will need to this instead.

2nd Gen guys have been doing this to fix the kazoo noise for a while:

    https://youtu.be/736UhJpjo2k

It definitely cuts down wind noise too, but I’m pretty sure it’s not 15db. Whatever the reduction is it’s noticeable, but not as noticeable as sound deadening the back wall and doors. I added this same weather stripping all the way around both doors on my truck about a year ago. It’s really easy to just continue down and back along the bottom edge with the gasket- looks more finished that way. The back doors are marginally harder to close, but its not bad at all. Once the foam has compressed some it’s barely noticeable.

@Will'sSR5 Nice work! That's exactly what I intend to do. I was just shopping the stripping today but didn't have my truck here to measure for the project.

Thanks for the write up @BaciChef I’m interested in how well this works. My back doors would not close if I went all the way around so it looks unfinished but I don’t care.07E3B312-7EB4-4137-84DD-7BE1CC62149A.jpg 13535CED-3A42-401F-965F-67CFE37E1A99.jpg 3F8CB0C7-2C2A-4FCE-A9F9-C3AC2D435C60.jpg

slowpoke16taco, Not sure if my truck is an aberration or not, but the simple addition of the weather-stripping I added made for a significant reduction of the "kazoo" effect / wind noise that occurs with some trucks. It also helped with plain ole road noise a bit. Let me clarify my 15db improvement. My 15db improvement surprised me greatly. I measured the improvement multiple times on the highway at 65-70 miles an hour on the freeway. Now, I live in Northern Nevada, so this seems to means wind blows as a crosswind no matter what direction I'm driving, and the crosswind driving is where my greatest improvement were measured.
Proper attribution called for here. My decision to add the weather-stripping comes from the great YOLOfotos posting I found on TW. Here is his YouTube link, https://youtu.be/736UhJpjo2k.
After looking at WillsSR5 post, I'm going to continue weather-stripping around the remaining body frame as he did.

    Hey all,

I’ve been lurking in this thread for a bit, considering doing this mod. My 2021 Sport is by far the loudest of the four Tacomas, two Tundras, and one Landcruiser I’ve owned. Might be on par with my old Tercel…

Anyway, I installed the AVS in-channel window deflectors and it’s reduced my wind noise significantly. Maybe others can verify my finding and report back on another option in addition to the others presented here. They look good too!

If you have the ability, maybe measure the difference in volume inside the cab before and after the deflectors the way OP did in his first post?

i would have if I knew it would be noticeable!

    hey Will,
I like how much you were able to cover front to back. Did you use what the OP used and approximately how many feet of product did you use to achieve the coverage?

    thanks in advance!

I used a slightly different seal than the OP, roughly 3/8" x 5/8" (it's listed as .36" x .625"). The 1/2" x 1/2" stuff is too thick and will make your doors harder to close if you take the seal all the way around like I did. I purchased two 25' pieces, one for each side of the truck:

Were you satisfied with the results? The OP's claims were eye opening.

I've noticed a few vehicles over the years that had two steps of weather stripping, yet never thought to make my vehicles the same. I even weather-stripped the tailgate of my old Pickup and didn't even think to do the doors haha. Good lookin out!

Yeah, this is definitely worth doing. When I bought my truck it was immediately noticeable how much more road noise I heard compared to previous vehicles that I have owned. It was especially obvious in the snow when the tires slung slush and slop against the underside of the truck and into the wheel wells. This extra seal does a good job at quieting that down, as well as knocking down some of the wind noise. This along with sound deadening the doors and rear wall of the cab make big difference.

My first mod on my TRD Sport was AVS in the channel low window deflectors and bug 2 deflector so not sure about the noise reduction as I had it done on day one. I still get some noise depending which way I am going as it seems to move that way. Nothing to cry about but it is there.
