i think i see 3 possible things that cause the problem. it looks like some of the rubber from the gutter is a little pushed up in front/ upper corner of glass seal is slightly up/ inside between door and dash a small crack between plastic and the rubber used to create the seal

I experience it at highway speeds windows up, and sunroof either up or open. As soon as I close the sunroof I no longer experience it. Like air getting sucked through a loose seal. I've heard it on both the drivers and passenger side.

Yup, mine does it almost every day because of the wind over here.

I have this too. Mostly when I'm on the on-ramp and I'm at high RPMs. It sounds like a whistle and crackles.

I have / had this issue, just got it fixed yesterday, I have a thread too that I was just trying to update with info, so I will start here, then update my thread. I will post pics in my thread later in the day and I will link it here for others to see.

I have been fighting this issue since probably October, and finally got it fixed yesterday.

I started out taking my truck to the dealership where they replaced both door seals, that did nothing, I continued taking it to the dealer and complaining, never got fixed. Then last week I sent an e-mail to the GM of the dealer, later that day I received a phone call from the service director, I had never seen or spoken with him before. He said that he was aware of the issue, and that Toyota is as well. He said that he has a friend that works on the engineering team attempting to fix this issue. He said that Toyota has stopped selling the door seals to dealers to try to fix this noise, they did this because the seals obviously wont fix it. He said that they are working to develop a new seal that is firmer and thicker to correct the issue. However, in the mean time the engineer instructed him how to perform a temporary fix until the new parts are available.

What they did was, they took 7/16" vacuum hose or windshield washer tubing (either works) and they pulled the seal that is on the door back and ran the rubber tubing behind the seal. They started at the top corner of the trailing edge of the door and run it all the way across the top and down to just below where the side mirror is on the door. Doing this makes the door seal stick out further, and makes it harder to compress while closing the door.

We are having some really bad storms in Houston last night and today, normally with the wind blowing like it is, my truck would be howling like crazy going down the road, but not any more, it's actually quieter inside the cab than it has ever been!!

Like I said, when I get home tonight, I will snap a couple photos to update my thread, and I will post the link in this thread for others to see.

Good luck guys, hope this help y'all out!

Odinsbro, I will try to figure that out, I have been a long time thread creeper, but now that I have something useful I have started talking some. I will at the very least post the link to my thread here, and the pics will be posted in there.

so i just spoke with Toyota corporate and the dealer and they are telling me that they cant do anything because the speed at which the noise comes about is over the speed limit in my area (65mph... noise is at 70+)..... i showed them the video above and they said that its "weather and or unknown vehicle conditions"..... so they are basically saying im screwed and "its normal" guess im gonna try an make my own door gasket

Thats some BS man, lucky for me we have 75 and 80 mph highways here in Texas. My recommendation would be for you to try what was done on mine, and hope a TSB comes out for the door seals eventually.

some of the roads here are 70-80 but they are 50+ miles away so i would need to go to a dealer in that area in order to get work done

As frustrating as that is, it may be worth it to make the trip up there. It sounds like your dealer is copping out on this one, they use a lame excuse to avoid having to work on your truck.

I had the same wind noise issue on my 2010 and so did a certain percentage of all the 2nd gen owners. There was a TSB for it so when I took it into the dealership and described the problem they fixed it right away (not sure exactly what they did unfortunately). It has not returned since.

I did not have to hit the speeds the OP mentioned to trigger the noise, for me highway speed or even a little under highway speed was enough as long as there was a strong cross wind.

I hope you can get it fixed OP because from experience it drives you nuts quickly.

Sad thing that Toyota as still not fixed the problem in the 3rd gens even after 10+ years of having a TSB for the 2nd gens (and not fixing he problem at the manufacturing step)

While talking to my service manager at my dealer, he indicated that the Tacomas are experiencing 2 types of wind noise, one that is fixable by a TSB (I believe that one they replace the windshield), and the other noise that can't be fixed. The second noise was the one I had, it took a call to the engineering people to find out this temp fix until they finish the re-design on door seals, or so they say. Either way mine is fixed for now, if the "NEW" parts that are being worked on don't actually fix the problem, then I will just re-install the temp fix and live with it.

Thanks, Jerimyr2000! That definitely seems to be a reasonable, temporary fix! Looked so good, I immediately tried it, and it seems to have reduced the noise from the driver's door area. Still getting noise from the back door area, so will have to try inserting tubing there, and getting up to a higher speed on our Texas roads.

Here is a quick summary of some of the "solutions" provided for this problem, both here in 2nd and 3rd Gen threads, as well as other places on the 'net. If any viewers have found workable ones, please let us know. Also, if you have found additional (realistic) solutions, please add yours.

(So far, Jerimyr2000's seems to be the best alternative for this specific problem ... but, maybe there are others.)

Cover the holes in the steering control arms
-- Wrong thread. Complaint refers to roar in side window area, not ocarina in the steering-a.

    Your windshield needs replacing
-- Wrong thread. Complaint refers to roar in side window area, not whistle in the windshield.

    Turn up the radio
-- Hm. OK, but that does not solve the problem.

Pack material between the cab and the bed.
-- Later post said it did not work.

Fill bottom of mirror with expanding foam
-- Supposedly worked for that poster, but his complaing was for wind noise from the driver side mirror.

Open window, bend top of door inwards to make better seal.
-- Supposedly worked for that poster. Suggests door gasket problem

Put 2-sided tape between door and window gasket, sealing the gasket.
-- Supposedly worked for that poster. Again, a gasket problem.

Put foam-type insulating tape along window (or door) gasket.
-- Supposedly worked for that poster. Again, a gasket problem.

Run 7/16 diameter tubing beteween door and top of door seal. Pictures included. (Thanks, Jerimyr2000!)
-- Supposedly worked very well for that poster. Supposedly Toyota-recommended, temporary fix. Again, a gasket problem.

"Fix" the little ventilator doors in the back cab wall, so they don't leak
    --Supposedly worked for that poster.

Add soundproofing material inside back cab wall, particularly around the vent doors
-- More than a casual fix.

"It is normal for that vehicle"
    -- Sound familiar?

"It is a truck, you gotta expect that"
-- Wind noise is expected for a $40,000 vehicle?

Some of the audible "wind noise" may actually be "road/tire noise"
    -- One of my observations.

There is a TSB for that problem
-- Please give us a citation or reference for the 2016 Tacoma, so we could educate our dealership!

Dang man, good research!! I would definitely do any door with the 7/16" tubing that is having that noise, for me it was passenger and driver, driver was much much worse, they did the tubing on both doors. One of the mechanical engineers I work with actually suggested the tweaking of the door mentioned above. While I was certain that would work getting the door to seal better, I just didn't want to start tweaking the body of my truck, because what if I made it worse??? I'm no body shop guy, and if I made it worse, then I would have to pay a body shop to fix what I effed up. I just decided to be persistent with the dealer and made some noise to the higher up management. I wanted Toyota to do the tweaking and trying stuff, hell I'm paying them for this vehicle which is under warranty, they will be the ones to get their hands dirty, not me!!

I was wrong on the tube size it's actually 7/16", the dealer told me 7/32". I'll edit the above. Good eye @old-timer

    There's a slight possibility it's because you're going over 70mph in a truck.
