Just checking if my 08 truck is like everyone else. As i was on a step stool wiping my windshield i placed my hand on the cowl area below the wipers (black part). It pushed down and i could see the bottom of the windshield glass. I'm just wondering why this is not sealed. Is this common?

I have seen the black part you are referring to but I have not pressed down on it and really don't intend to unless I have to. Not a lot of places to rest your other hand on up there, is there? First wash I did place my hand there and it moved so I backed off of resting the hand there. Hopefully someone will answer shortly that has been in there for some reason.

Yep, you are correct. The cowl isn't attached to the windshield. It just slides up on it.

at least i now know that mine is not unique. But now i'm wondering why Toyota didn't seal it better.

The entire winshield is sealed with black sealant all the way around, so the only thing bad that could come of it would be wind noise. Other than that, don't worry.
