So, I was driving through an ice storm a few nights ago-scraping my windshield every 4-6 miles-because it got so built up with ice and snow.

My GF went ape shit with the scraper towards the bottom of the windshield. That rubber weather stripping where the glass meets the cowl, right by the wipers got absolutely annihilated. I'll need to replace it at some point. Probably once winter is over.

My question: can I just replace the rubber stripping or do I have to replace the entire plastic cowl? how much of a PITA is it to fix/replace? for those of you that have had this issue, is there a better solution that just replacing the mangled piece?

    Oh look, another mod....

After you repair the rubber stripping and possibly the entire cowl, replace the gf. How dare she abuse your beloved Taco like that!

Clearly not well enough to melt the slush, ice, and snow fast enough.

I just called the parts counter and I've got to buy the entire assembly and its fucking $690, Jesus Christ

    hahahah

It doesn't take much when the plastic/rubber is frozen solid. Entire door handles snap off in less.

Some of the scrapers they sell are fucking crazy too, way too aggressive and sharp.

Ok, I dont wanna rag on her too much. The drivers side is messed up too. But the passenger side is far worse and completely destroyed

Good. That will allow for a much more accurate assessment and useful recommendations.

My experience is during snow, cold and ice weather you have to have controls 100% on defrost, highest temp and a/c switch on. Cabin will still be warm and you don't need any comfort settings like face or feet. I've never had problems that way in Canadian winters.

She ate her Wheaties that morning! LOL

You might get by with just buying some window sealant or buy a used one on ebay.

Try calling a salvage yard. Does the windshield need to come out to repair the damage?

Can't remember what that piece looks like off the top of my head, but post some pics if you get a chance. Also some pics of how it attaches to the cowl, if its just adhesive, or if its specialty and clips in. Depending on how it attaches, you can likely just call up your local auto glass shop (an actual auto glass company, not a mechanic/body shop that contracts their glasswork out) and ask if they'll sell you a strip of the appropriate universal moulding (if it'll work) to stick to the cowl, if its just an adhesive piece.

Up here in MN, its -10 degrees out, the heater on full blast just keeps up with keeping the cab above freezing :( But at least we dont have iguanas falling out of trees hitting us...
