It's weakened as it headed East, looking at 3-6 Western Maine Mountains.

Curious what it is like driving from Millinocket, up the Golden road and then up Telos road in the winter? I've ridden my sled up there for years, but I want to fish Ross Lake this winter and I have never driven past Millinocket. Not worried about just driving the log roads but I'll be towing my big, enclosed trailer. I can dodge oversized log trucks in my Sierra, but when the trailer is attached I'm not going to drive into the ditch.

Honestly its not really a big deal. Mostly depends on weather which has a direct bearing on the road conditions. Cold and dry with lots of grip, or a warmer day where the surface of the ice on the road is wet and slick..? Also, if you are up there later in the year the snow banks will be so big youll never even get close to the ditch if shit goes sideways. But then again I never tow a trailer.. Id imagine the key is just to take it slow and read the road well.

No chance you're going over these snowbanks if you crash :D
First pic is early Mar this year, 2nd is later in May

Just ordered a zero degree bag from EMS because they had some good deals this week. Been eyeing a zero bag for a while and this trip is a good excuse to jump on it.

Also not a bad idea. A) helps increase the temperature of the bag. 2) it's washable. Does a great job preserving the bag.

Yep a liner is next on my list. I’ve lived my life backwards and started out backpacking. Now that I’m into car camping I don’t even know where to start with the luxury to carry an extra 10 ounces and not think twice about it.

Alright, so I think Im going to pull the trigger and randomly pick the weekend of Dec 14-15 for this trip. Its too far out to get any weather forecasts, but hopefully it will allow people enough time to get PTO from work. Worst case scenario theres a huge noreaster that weekend which would make highway travel to/from northern Maine really sketchy. In that case I would be open to moving it forward or back one week. But I think this weekend will be ideal. Usually not too cold that time of year, but a decent amount of snow on the ground which is always fun driving through.

I would ask everyone who is serious to reply here so I can get an accurate head count setup in the first post. Like I said before, I would prefer to keep this to about 5-7 trucks. Splitting up into smaller groups wont be an option once we get off the main road, and having more trucks than that is just a logistical hassle..

For those who are coming from So. New England, you may want to consider a hotel Fri night. With the short days I hope to be leaving the Bangor area by 7 or 8 Sat morning. Hoping to cover most of the ground Saturday then find and make camp in the woods somewhere that night. That leaves breaking camp and a shorter trip out of the woods for Sunday.

I had a feeling it was going to be that weekend. I’m busy with family things so I will have to try again next year.
