Wire Colors for Reverse Light

2007 Tacoma. I'm connecting a rear camera and need to determine which wires are pos and ground on the reverse light.

I'm pretty sure from reading elsewhere that

red/blue stripe = pos
white/black stripe = ground

Can anyone verify this?

 

Assuming you have to cut them to connect up your camera, cut the cut the RB and then meter to ground; if you get 12v when the truck is in reverse, that's '+' if not, it's '-'. FWIW, I'm certain you are correct.

 

I was planning to use the quick connects that pinch through the insulation

 

Don't!! Those Scotchlocks are junk. Take the extra five minutes, cut, solder, and cover using adhesive-lined heatshrink. That will last the life of the truck.

 

My diagrams show it as a Red/White wire for +
And White/Black for -

You can check it yourself, but you’ll need to be in reverse.
You can use the shift lock over-ride button if your an auto.
Manual just put it in reverse.

 

White/Black is pretty much exclusively used for ground on Toyota, for 07 it shows the reverse power wire being Red/White.
I agree on not using scotch lock wire taps, they are nothing but constant headaches with corrosion and bad connections.

Maybe but any kind of wiring connection that isn't sealed on the exterior of a vehicle will corrode, if you aren't in an area where roads are salted you may be able to get away with it but anywhere that has salted roads in the winter you likely would be lucky to get 1 year out of it before the wire corrodes to nothing.
