What size rubber grommets were these on your pelfreybilt fuse panel?

This is awesome! just ordered firewall boot and stepped drill bit off Amazon and will be here today! Planning on using this to wire a subwoofer amplifier and some lights!

Just Installed this with some wiring today, but I did it a bit differently than how you did in your picture. I flipped the rubber boot around so that the small end is inside the cab of the truck and the widest part of the boot is flush with the firewall on the side of the engine bay. I think this gives the job a cleaner look and looks more like the factory boot that has many other wires running through it.

Just did this today. I basically just drilled out an existing OEM grommet hole on the passenger side to 1.25” then put the grommet in. I had been using this hole for wires but now that it’s bigger I can run a lot more in the future if needed. All the stuff on my driver side is full and I’m not punching any more holes in the main firewall boot.

A little something every chance we get.
Very nice! Much admiration for your clean wiring. One of my first projects when I got Little Big Red was researching the install for the overheat thermometer - which turned into a GenTec autodim mirror, with the thermometer and compass. But I was pretty new to the site, and did not know past wiring through that main boot from what I had read at that point.
20171111_134548.jpg Not wanting to drill a hole; since I know nothing of what might be on the other side. The trusty coat hanger is prepped!
20171111_134608.jpg Surprise to me, it did not want to go through where the wires are. So, I routed it with the hood release cable. Nothing in the way, and only 2 #18 in a shroud.
20171111_134819.jpg I just brought the whole thing thru the access hole without an issue.
20171111_134830.jpg I had to put two Tyco connectors on the inside end. But it all worked out fine for two wires.

No plans that would need that cool boot at this time, but now I know! Thanks.

I still favor the coat hanger through the factory boot approach, since drilling the firewall means that you have a new point where rust will start growing. And you might as well leave it completely bare for all the help that rustoleum will do.

Believe me, theres zero chance that's going to rust unless you submerge your truck in ocean water! But thanks for the feedback...

Have you ever driven in the winter? Because that is effectively what winter driving is -- a CONTINUOUS bath in ocean (salted roads) water.

Yes I live in Cleveland Ohio where the roads are saltier than the Dead Sea. There's no rust on the area I drilled, theres no moisture that gets to it. My frame is more likely to rot away before this small hole located at the top of the firewall poses a problem. Moving on.
