That's very cool, just not $200 with exchange rate and shipping kind of cool. But still an awesome install!

Install complete. Tied into the rearview mirror wires as posted above. Blue for accessory and white/black for ground.

Actually had my landlord confirm everything, I asked to borrow his multimeter and he basically did the install for me. Now I just need to convince him to get a Tacoma!

Everything is working perfectly, really glad I've got this "mod" done and it's very seamless. I hardly know the camera is there now since I can barely see it while sitting in the drivers/passenger/rear seats. Its also mounted BEHIND the rearview mirror, so other drivers won't notice it very easily.

What do you guys think? Hope this helps others planning on hardwiring their camera.

I didn't want to hardwire to the battery since I didn't want to risk it dying if we go on vacation, and didn't want the complication of wiring in a switch just for a simple dashcam

I would love some additional details into how you did this. I just purchased the Vantrue X1 pro but do not know electrical and I am terrified with screwing something up or voiding my warranty somehow. Rather than soldering can an automotive wire tap be used https://www.amazon.com/Quick-Splice-Connector-22-18-Gauge/dp/B003L9G6FU ?

If its 12V continuous power, would your risk frying the camera as it only requires 5v of power?

Also, with this hardwired setup does the parking detect feature still work when the car is off? Apparently that requires constant power when the car is parked.

Reviving an old thread. I had my dash cam hooked up to my mirror. All of a sudden out of nowhere, neither my mirror or dash cam are getting power. Anyone know which fuse the mirror belongs to? Everything else overhead is still working just fine.

So when you guys tapped into the power source, what did you solder in??

Did you just cut the end off a usb cable, find the wire for power and solder it in? Or did you buy a step-down 12v to 5v usb outlet and plug in using a small usb cord?

My radar detector utilizes a phone jack plug for power. I wasn't able to find any.

Toyota makes an OEM harness that taps inline to the mirror, also has +12v, ground, and always on +12v with fuses in the harness. It is used to power their OEM dashcam but you can use it to power anything you want and not splice into the trucks existing wiring. It's 40-60$ depending on the dealership.
