So the 20th I'm scheduled to get my wisdom teeth removed... Not looking forward to this at all! This is my first surgery and my first time to use medicated narcotics... One thing I'm wondering is what are some good soft foods to eat while I'm recovering?

Don't drink soda, you'll get dry sockets. They say those hurt like a bitch.
I was gumming down food, it just hurts a little bit when I got mine out. Haha

Anything soft, mashed potatoes, yogurt, pudding. What ever you do DO NOT suck through a straw and you will be fine. I had all 4 cut out and was eating normal again in 3-4 days.

One of the main reason's I'm nervous is because the dentist I've had for the past couple of months was pulling one of my coworker's teeth, and he pulled bone from her nasal cavity as well... She was just laying there while he was looking at it like, "Uhm.... That's interesting...." I haven't had any problems with him the last 3 times I've seen him, but after hearing this I'm kind of worried about him doing oral surgery on me.... Haha

Yeah, they told me no straws, no hot food at first, and when brushing my teeth try not to spit out the toothpaste because spitting can mess up the clots as well.

There's always horror stories about wisdom teeth being pulled. I had mine yanked, took like one pain pill the next day, that was it.

but don't eat crackerjacks you find in the car immediatly following the surgery... not good

it sucks, but not that bad. I stuck to nothing but tylenol, sold the percocets on the streetz. All 4 of mine were impacted and had to be chiseled out.

I was doing a lot of instant breakfast drinks.

Ok, I must be a wuss.

I've dislocated an elbow, broke a vertebrae in my back, broke my wrist twice and been married for 7 years ... with two kids.

When I got my wisdom teeth out, that was the worst constant pain I have ever dealt with. The elbow hurt the worst up front, but the wisdom teeth just was a constant 8/10. I don't know if I had dry socket or anything but it was painful for a solid 3 days.

Do you really need them yanked? I had a dentist tell me mine needed to come out. I went to some specialist/oral surgeon who wanted a RIDICULOUS sum of money to do it, even after my insurance. Went to another dentist, he said they were fine. I still have them years later. No problems. No pain. Dentists can be worse than stealerships in IMHO...

Well I'm hoping that since I'm only 19 it will go pretty smooth. They said the younger the better because your bone is more spongy the younger you are. Also my wisdom teeth are all far from the bone so they said it should be simple incisions. They also said one of my top teeth may not even need to be taken out since it's already pushing through and is coming in straight. None of them are impacted.

Well it's all free for me with being in the Air Force. They want to remove them now while I'm in limbo between training for my job as well, because once I start my job I won't really have time to get it done. One already has a cavity because it has pushed partially through the gum but a tooth brush won't fit back there. I'm hoping I'm one of the lucky ones that jumps back after a day or two. They're doing the procedure on a Wednesday and I don't have to go back to work until the next Monday :)

The Dr. said I had huge teeth and roots, but seriously I was high on pain meds for 2 days solid and still the pain was out of control.

nothing is worse than trips to the dentist/orthodontist.... even cleanings, while pain free ,are still uncomfortable......
