Update on the play in the flange, I got a smaller shim that goes between the outer bearing and output shaft and it got rid of all the play. The one that come with it was .169" and I swapped to a .166", 3 thousandths smaller did the trick.

Also reverted the alignment and got the 315s back on. Once I get the driveshaft back I should be ready to rock.

    Stuff. Also things.
Glad to hear it’s almost back on the trail, James!

When did you go to 315s, or have you been running them for awhile?

Being a Japanese build you'll have koyo/NSK/NTN universal joints. I have not found any joints that compare to the same quality as OEM

Makes sense, I'm sure Ill end up back on those before too long. I had them replaced just because when I did the retube, they still felt fine.

Took er for a lap today, got pretty high with the boy and the pooch. Getting the hang of all the gearing selections, she’s pretty fun to romp. A few small things to mess with but overall very happy with the performance off-road. On road, the vibes are pretty rough, but I’ll deal. No going back now.

No, at least I think, from the poly drivetrain and poly body mounts. More of just a constant buzz lol.

Is that all 1" tubing? The center support on each side just sitting in the roof channel there and bolted at the factory locations?

Think I'm going to fab one like yours instead of shelling out for a Sherpa.

Correct, 1". Yep, that is how every other production one is made and has been holding up great. I used .065", I think, I would go a just bit thicker if I were to do it over.

Awesome, thanks for the info. Love how yours came out.

How are you bolting the tent to it? That's the main reason I want a heavier duty and lower profile rack the the stock one. My other concern is going to be getting the 4runner in and out of the garage with the tent in place. Might not be able to do it, especially with a lift and some real tires like you have. I only have a 7 foot opening.

I made the crossbar it is attached to removable, each bar has 2 bolts on each side that bolt through the rack, that way you don’t have to mess with the super hard to reach hardware from the tent. The nuts are welded to the back of the crossbar so only need to pull the 8 bolts that come out from the side and pull it off.

No problem. I actually drilled holes through the tent to run 3/8" bolts through the tent and directly into the rack crossbars, getting rid of the aluminum tent crossbars, U bolt plates and skinny hardware that come with the tent, but the holes didn't quite line up and I haven't revisited making it work yet, but will be a much sturdier solution over what comes with the tent.

It was really the only way to go and stay on top of the big one passenger side. I got hung up on it, rocked a few times, and then it rolled right with me down the trail a bit. Worked out fine.
