I don't know how much, if any, love the Witcher series got on this forum, but with the enhanced edition of the sequel coming out, some of you fuckers should put it on your list.

It's a fantasy setting, but with a decidedly more adult tone compared to titles like Skyrim, for example (as the trailer below neatly illustrates).

The original launched in 2007 for the PC only. The sequel came out May '11 for Xbox 360 and Windows. The Enhanced Edition is coming soon with the original game and some extra content.

The basic upshot of the game: The player character is a "witcher" sort of a medieval version of the Orkin man. People have monster, ghost, etc. problems? You get hired to get rid of the problem. The game opens with Geralt (the player character) in the role of bodyguard to King Foltest of Temeria, who is putting down a rebellion in his lands. Recently, Kings of neighboring kingdoms have been mysteriously assassinated...and that's where the game starts...

Here's a trailer showing one of the aforementioned assassination. I can tell you the whole game is up to this level of quality, even though the visuals here are pre-rendered.

And, to grow on, the original launch trailer, which uses mostly in-game footage:
