Jeep Grand Cherokee - and wanting to move to a Tacoma...
Right now I own a 99 Grand Cherokee 4x4. A great all-around vehicle so far that's been dependable and basically that a Jeep product should be. I back into owning a house now and a truck would be oh-so-much nicer and convenient however. I've never owned a Tacoma but their quality and looks catch my eye - always.

I'm interested in the older body styles - the '02 style, hopefully a manual transmission. Is there any particular year for that body style I should avoid due to certain issues, and, for those that don't find themselves pulling a whole lot - how is the performance and reliability of the I4? I'm not sure whether I'll be going to another 4x4 or not. If I look back I can probably still count on one hand the amount of time I've spent in 4x4 due to weather conditions.

Welcome to TW! From what i understand the old I4's were indestructable, no matter what year.

Yeah, I think you will be alright as long as you get the vehicle checked out. It should be solid, but you never know what people have done to it. Carfax and vehicle inspection - that is what I would do.

ndcouch is right - those old I4 Tacomas are bomb proof.

    BTW - Welcome to TW!
