02 Tacoma, fixed with curse words.
1999 GMC sierra 1500. I sheared the steering shaft pulling into a parking space, i have owned two rockcrawlers and have never even heard of that! Lots of little electrical stuff, the window switches constantly broke and when they did work all the lights dimmed and the engine kicked into a higher RPM to stay running, Dumbass techs somehow wired the horn into the door locks so when i honked the horn instead of a sound the doors locked. I owned that truck for 2yrs and it was in the shop 10 times for various little stuff that kept breaking. The engine and trans were okay though. I bought that as a tow rig for my yj i had at the time and i drove the yj more than the truck.

That ford looks to be the highly sought after 7.3. If you don't mind me asking, what problems did you have with that truck?

    It's no problem Justin.

First know that I really did enjoy that truck & would still consider buying another stroker.

The one pictured is one that I bought new in 2003. It did have the 7.3l / 444cid.

Early in its life it was only used as my daily driver and not as a work truck. Oddly, it only had problems when it was new & babied. I'll call it infant mortality associated with new parts on a new truck.

I drove the truck several miles and really looked it over before I took it home. It was replacing a 2002 4x4 TRD Off Road with a V6 & manny tranny and was sharing garage space with a 2001 VW TDi (I'm a diesel fan). I had and have owned several Toyota trucks & really impressed on the dealer that if it wasn't similar to Toyota in reliability I wouldn't be please. Of course they assured me Ford was as good as Toyota but, we all know the truth.

Shortly after I got the PSD home in the garage I noticed a severe oil leak eminating near the engine/transmission mating surfaces. I took it back to the Ford dealership where they replaced the rear main crank seal. The Ford dealership told me the truck was in tip top shape having inspected it and topping the fluids (should they have needed it yet?).

I took the truck home & parked it in the garage and found I had another leak. Transmission fluid this time. I returned to the Ford dealership the next day and they kept the truck and repaired the leak by replacing the transmission housing. As explained & showed to me, there was a fault in a seam line / mating surface that originated during the manufacturing process. When the fluid was "topped" then warmed up, it overflowed from a relatively high position on the transmission. So with 389 miles on the odometer, I had encountered two problems. Neither of which were severe in terms of reliability I guess but severe in the quantity of fluid & the fact it was a new vehicle.

Other problems in no particular order but all occurring under the 3/36 bumper to bumper were power seats that failed (drive motor), alternator, trailer brake & light control unit, high pressure oil line (that was impressive) & ball joints.

It came with a bumper to bumper 3/36 and 5/100 power train. And after several of the issues I expressed concern about continued ownership post 3/36 and Ford did a "good will" 5/75 bumper to bumper. I had relatively few problems after 30,000 miles but, still did a private sale of the truck just at the end of the 75,000 miles in January of 2007.

During my ownership I had converted the truck to business use (50% rapid depreciation on vehicles over 6,000 pounds gross...yee haw) and pulled 8,500 pound trailer with it daily. It then withstood my teenage son and survived.

Full disclosure, I did a six inch lift, 35 in super swampers, chip, exhaust & EGT at 4,000 miles. While I drove it, all routine maintenance was accomplished on time and the truck was driven easy and garage kept.

1987 F150 351W V8. I can now tear-down, rebuild and retune a Holley 4160 carb in 20 minutes (installation included)... SO many other issues as well... transmission problems, vacuum leaks, and you wouldn't believe it, but it is actually remarkably difficult to find new parts for the front axle on the 1987 4X4 model. No more Fords for this guy.

1989 Izuzu Trooper. Worst truck ever! It had a 2.8 l GM V6 that produced maybe 120 HP in a 4000lb vehicle. The thing had one breakdown after another. The one piece transfer case and 5 speed transmission seized on a cross country drive, stranding me in Chicago for a week. It cost $3000 just to fix the broken parts. It would have been $5000 to replace it. After that, the steering column blew from the "abuse" of driving on a few dirt roads. The brakes would come on by themselves. The dealership couldn't even fix that; they just adjusted the pedal all the way to the floor. A/C compressor bearings went bad, back door rusted through at 70K, and I'm sure I forgot a few things. Good riddance to Isuzu in the US market!

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Same here, I had an 80 CJ5 that was just like that. Fun as hell, when it ran! But it was pretty cool looking with that cage.. My brother owns it now, it's his basket case. I have since wisened up to Toyotas and Broncos.

That's both our toys with my brother in the middle. My '72 Bronco walks all over that Heep though hehe. Dana 44 up front, converted power steering and disc brakes, Ford 9" rear, borg warner T-18 4 speed manual, it's tough as nails compared to the Jeep.
I recently acquired this '79 Toyota Pickup I plan to build into a complete crawler over the next few years.

Never left us stranded but my wife had a 2007 Jeep Compass. Was noisy, accelerated so slow it was hard to merge into traffic, everything looked extremely cheep and would lurch and sputter all the time and sometimes just die when idling. Never did find out what was wrong with it after taking it in twice then traded it in with 60k miles on a Prius C.
Most problems by far is my 87 Volkswagen Westfalia. Non stop maintence. You name it its prob been fixed. It's a money pit with 280k miles but Its worth it for how much fun it is. Does surprisingly well mild off road, in snow and turns on a dime. Hard to beat showing up at the river, camp spot, ski resort or anywhere, popping the top and your done setting up camp.

Maybe there should be a Renault ex-driver support group here.

    10pu0e1_3ad07102c226356e5289733ff845d24eada52060.jpg

Even though this thing got crap mileage, had no power, and a list of problems a mile long (my favorite - when you turned on the a/c, the horn would sound non-stop, like 1/2 normal volume), it only cost me $240, and I drove it for two years, piled it into a tree, and sold it for $100.

Most time in the shop however belongs to my otherwise awesome turbo Supra. Broke my heart to sell, but... not really. Pain in the arse, it was.

First car was a 2000'ish Acura RSX.
Now that... is a piece of sheit.
Small, cramped, noisy, the bumpiest ride ive ever been in, and it felt like the floor was gonna fall off.
Only had it a month or so. (It was a gift before my license from my grandma )
I sold it as soon as I got my license and was baffled that anyone would even WANT to buy those things.

But hey, it never broke down, and when I sold it, it gave me money for a Tacoma.

'71 Scout II. Drove it for about 14 years. Did not realize what an unreliable vehicle it was until I replaced it with a Toyota. At least I learned a lot about working on cars. :)

I had 2 cars that were about equally as bad as each other, but one gets a free pass as it had 319k on the clock. That car being a 1990 volvo 240. It was in my garage on jackstands more than it was on the road. That being said it was the original engine and trans and the engine still had good compression and oil pressure, which is amazing considering it was ice raced for years and horribly neglected before I got my hands on it. And my nightmare on wheels was a 1989 crown victoria wagon. Ran amazing for the first 6k miles I had it, I loved it. Then it developed a severe misfire. I replaced literally everything ignition related, and every sensor except the MAP and o2 sensors. I also replaced the EGR valve, IAC valve, fuel filter, and about 50 more things Im forgetting. All this was to stop that damn misfire, which I never managed to fix. I gave up and traded it for my 1988 volvo 740 that had a blown transmission and diff when I did the trade, I towed the volvo home with the crown vic (amazingly) and then the new owner drove it back to his place. I was that desperate to get rid of it.
