    I have the reg cab.
You definitely have to test fit the truck, if you have stock seats it will
be a tight fit. Some people are ok with that, some are not.
If you HAVE to have the truck and it’s a close fit you have an option still.
I had 4runner seats in my truck and replaced them with Corbeau LG1 non suspension seats.
I gained a ton of room with these seats. They are smaller in height and thinner.
I’m 6 foot 200 pounds 32” inseam and with these seats pushed all the way back
my legs can be straight out with plenty of room. I have probably 5” or 6” at least of head room too.
I don’t use the last click setting on my seat and they are very comfortable for a 21 year old truck.
Compared to my Tahoe it’s a tight fit tho. So it will depend on what your used to driving.
Toyota seats are not comfortable to begin with. You really have to
    test drive it,
With the 4runner seats it was much more cramped and tight.

See if there is a similar 1st gen in your area and try to test drive it. Then drive and see if that other one is worth the drive.

    Where do you live?
Maybe post on a regional board for what you’re looking for and someone will let you test fit with their truck.

You'll need too try it for yourself. I'm a lot more comfortable in my 2nd gen Frontier than any Toyota truck I've owned. Adjustable seat height, upright seating position and more knee room make a huge difference.

If you like reclining your seat way back to get comfortable a small regular cab truck won't work so well. I like my seat more upright which doesn't work well for tall people in small Toyota trucks either. I end up at eye level with the sun visors with my knees nearly touching the dash. In my 2nd gen AC my keys would dangle onto one knee and the other would bump into the door panel/window controls on rough roads.

My Impreza is king, a ton of seat height adjustment and a ridiculous amount of head room. The seats themselves are very good too, I can even set the drivers seat how I like it and sit in the seat directly behind it with room to spare!

Like others have said, its very subjective so you need to find a way to sit in one (or preferably test drive one).

I'm only 5'11'' (200 lbs, damn @Funkensour makin me feel like a fat*ss) but I had a regular cab 1990 toyota truck and it wasn't very comfortable for me, especially on any trips over like 40 minutes. When I got the access cab tacoma I was sooooo much happier and comfortable.

could be a medical condition, you never know

    ..........

OP, does this truck have a tilt steering wheel?
that may or may not make a difference
i really don't know if that is standard or not, just a thought to throw out there

That's right. And you never know the rest of the body geometry. I am only 5'-10" and I had my Taco seat completely back to the stop. But my cousin at 6'-2" found it fairly roomy.

I thought you were kidding at first but then I realized you weren't.

Ummmm, why did you buy the truck in the first place?

I think they're all pretty close to same dimensions. Maybe minor subtle differences, but likely nothing to be noticed by someone test sitting in the different years of reg cab

I didn't drive it for more than 10 minutes when I bought it. Also, just bought it for short hauls. It turned out to be better and more fun than I though it would be. So I would like to be able to enjoy it someday.

    Dear Dennis,

I would not waist your time at your size with a regular cab. It might be okay for about ten minutes, but anything longer you are going to be miserable.

    Take it easy,
    Paul

    Don't.

I bought my Ext cab when I was 17 and didn't care about ergonomics but as I get older they have become more and more important. I am 6'3" and would give it a 3/10 for comfort even with nicer seats installed. If I wasn't attached to this truck I would probably be selling it for something roomier to go wheeling in.

I'm going to try lowering my seat even more and swapping to an aftermarket steering wheel with a hub spacer to get some more clearance at my knees but I'm not sure it's a real fix, just a band-aid

Ive seen some morbidly obese fatasses (every bit of 6'4") step out of some of the smallest cars and trucks, tacomas included. Not sure if they were regular cabs or not bc i always watch and chuckle at how much the vehicle lifts when they get out and shuffle their feet into the gas station to refill their big gulp.

I’m 6’2” & have no problem fitting, with room to spare.

Depending on proportions & what your used to, it will feel either:
    Good & perfect
    or
    Tight

I’m used to a 90 Miata & a second gen xB, so I’m used to tighter fits. I like how everything in my regular cab is within easy reach & the bench sits about the angle I would set a bucket to.

If you like the seat rear angled more, the leg room may feel tight for 6’4. Buckets are adjustable, while benches are not.

My only complaint on the bench is I lack anywhere to rest my right knee (no cruise) on longer drives, so it goes to the stick shift (not a good idea for a manual). I made a prop by rolling up a mid-size towel/wash cloth in a tan similar to my seat cover, fitting it under my outer thigh. It works perfect.

I drive 28 miles each-way to work, plus 35-60 miles (each way) going to the larger cities near me for shopping trips.
