Yes, my next new purchase will be hybrid.

The 4 cylinder isn't great at highway speeds, but has a lot of pep taking off at city speeds.

Fuel is very expensive here and I need something better for a people mover.

I'd only do V6 if you had highway passing priority.

No, but that's simply because it doesn't fit my needs. They're great vehicles. I tow a 4000 pound travel trailer.

A 4Runner or Sequoia hybrid? As long as it maintains the tow capacity, in a heartbeat.

The previous Highlander looked better, IMO. But, I'd drive the shit out of a Highlander for 90% of my needs.

I'm thinking the same. The way tech and laws are going Hybrid or Plug is next purchase. Pretty amazing they can get almost 40 mpg out of a 4000 lb vehicle.
Gotta wait for next gen. It's coming.

Test drove both a Rav 4 and Highlander hybrid today.

First comment is about that noise though when you're braking and it regens the battery.... something to get use to I guess.
    Second.
Highlander felt much more substantial and solid than the Rav 4. Rav 4 is like the sporty little brother, minus the 3 rd row.

    Third.
Toyota has some tech now. Dam. Won't list it all but they are up to this century finally.

My 2018 Highlander V6 XLE is my favorite Toyota I’ve ever owned including 3 Camrys and 2 Tacomas. I still have the Taco for towing the boat and hauling dirt bikes. But the Highlander is super comfy, quiet, and to be honest the V6 hauls ass.

We switch from a 2019 Highlander SE to a 2021 Hybrid Platinum. Its the wifes ride and she loves it, gas mileage went from 18 in town to 33/34. No complaints at all after 11k miles.

They’re good cars hybrids are our least maintenance heavy vehicles Toyota sells. Seeing 100k on brakes has been normal to see, engines last long, transmissions I’ve only ever seen one hybrid fail. They’re a CVT, but not the kind of CVT your use to seeing. My mother just bought a Venza and loves it. Highlander I don’t care much for the looks of the design (really prone to wind noise) but mechanically they’re pretty damn solid

Just put a deposit on a RAV4 XLE Hybrid for my daughter. We weren't planning on buying a new car, but some uninsured jackass hit her head-on in our old '06 V8 4Runner and totaled it. Cost difference is so negligible, I figured it was time to try a hybrid. Plus, that was all they had allocated that wasn't sold yet. I looked up some videos to try and understand the tech better, and in typical Toyota fashion it doesn't seem too complicated. Good to hear that they are pretty solid.

So is the 1st gen 5 lug 4cyl Tacoma. That's just what it's rated for, though. It doesn't necessarily tow it very well. My rule of thumb is to try and stick to not much more than half your tow rating if you want to drive anywhere in the hills.

Agreed 100%. I m just surprised at the number as most suvs even gas are 3500 or half that. Just saying hybrid tech has caught up a bit.

I tow 4500 lbs and that's about max I want to be at lol. MT makes it bit easier. 20210727_130758.jpg

We just got a hybrid XLE as well, very happy with it. It’s a pretty simple design, very good torque, and we’re averaging 45mpg. It will actually top off the battery charge if you coast down a mountain for about 10-15 minutes. In stop and go traffic you can also run EV mode below 19mph.
