Yep, and since Toyota isn't going to do it for me - I plan on eventually dropping a 3.0L D4-D into my Tacoma courtesy of my friend Todd at http://dieseltoyz.com.

Meh, having driven gassers and diesels, both are fun, and both have their perks. Preference, I like gassers more.

I completely agree. It is complete preference on the part of the person behind the wheel.

If they offered my same truck (reg. cab 5-lugger) with a 4-cyl. turbo-diesel that got 45 MPG Hwy and they kept the price reasonable ($2-3K premium MAX), I'd trade tomorrow. If they jacked up the price to the point where it would take the lifetime of the truck to offset the extra cost with fuel cost savings, then I'd say screw 'em.

Its been out and in use for many years in the rest of the world. The 4 cyl Toyota diesel is touted as being more bullet proof the my 4 cyl 2.7L...:D

    That truck is amazing

Both are reallly no longer needed. Most modern day turbos are water cooled. The amount of time it takes you to drive down your street and pull into your driveway or a parking spot is plenty of time to let a turbo cool down. Unless of course you are doing a fourth gear pull into your driveway then shutting down.

Not only that but letting a car idle is going to cause oil and water temps to rise. Why would a turbo timer be doing any good if everything is just getting hotter.

Im willing to bet that motor would drop right in to a usdm Tacoma. it looks like they share the same platform. GOD that would kick ass!!

If someone put an ls1 in an xrunner im sure this would not be hard

They are not the same platform. The Hilux is the same platform as the Prado/4Runner/FJ. The Tacoma is a platform all its own.

They kinda looked the same. I just assumed. The 4.0 motor is offered in both platforms. I cant see it being that hard

I wonder if this will change on the next Tacoma? It would be much cheaper for Toyota to use an existing platform.

The mounts for the D4-D are different than the 4.0L (1GR-FE), and the specs on the frame are different (unfortunately).

You can fab anything to "work", but getting it to work correctly takes a bit of engineering and a ton of labor. The electrical alone is several hours.

You are quite right, the D4D is only about $4000 more than the 2.7
and about $1300 cheaper than the 4L here on the Hilux!!

YES, but I'd wait a year or two and let them work the bugs out and let someone else take the depreciation hit. So the price would be considerably less than 40k..say 25ish for a used taco dieseler :D

    In my sig
:DThat looks like the ones in Iceland. 3" lift running 40's w/ the the fenders totally chopped and a killer offset wheel. I had a buddy with a EU version diesel Seqoia that was built for the glaciers.
