After only a few months on TW I've seen and experienced myself and many people debating what truck is the best for the individuals' situation and what mods are essential. the question that has been popping into my head almost daily now, is say your truck was totaled today and you were given the full amount that it was worth, would you do it exactly the same way? Would you buy the same exact truck and do the same mods? I think this will help people to see real world experience as far as what mods are really worth the money and which truck to go with in general.

My experience has been that I love my 2017 DCSB MGM 4x4 TRD Sport. I honestly have never come across a situation that I needed a rear locker, but would it hurt to have one? Probably not at all. I do like the black fenders on the MGM better so I may look into swapping with someone at some point. But I love the way the trucks performs on and off the road and YES I did buy my sport for looks because majority of people buy a vehicle based on its looks, that's a fact!

If I could do it all over again, I might possibly consider the silver and go with a long bed TRD Sport. The silver was my original choice but my brother talked me into getting an MGM being that he and his wife have an MGM Tundra and 4runner. I also might consider the off road but probably do a lot of research on the entire package because it seems like people are running into some problems with crawl control. The biggest thing I would DEFINITELY change would be to get a manual transmission. I drove a 5 speed access cab nissan before this and absolutely loved driving manual. The better half told me that if I was going to spend 30k+ that she would need to drive it, so instead of her learning how to drive stick, I compromised and bought an automatic.....and I've regretted it ever since.

In conclusion, my advice for all you soon to be 3rd gen owners is to fricken test drive. TEST DRIVE TEST DRIVE TEST DRIVE, and don't settle.

So let's hear it! Would you do it all over again, exactly the same way?

    ****EDIT**** IF NOT, STATE WHY

I think mine would be too hard to find and I would go with a 4-Runner. And I don't want all the safety stuff on the '18s.

Sure. Its only real competition in my book was the Frontier Pro 4X, which barely exists anyway. I don't have space for a full-size, and a Jeep couldn't haul enough.

Now I feel like I have to clarify. I would if in a perfect world. Reality says I don't have time to wait. I guess that's a yes?

i didn't want to be one of those people that rant on about all their complaints and then get flamed for why did i buy it in the first place. I'll keep it for now.

For shits i asked a dealer what they'd give me for it and they threw me $35k. WTF!?!?!

I might have gone with a different color and probably would not have gotten a sun roof (wife had to have it).

I love my Tacoma. But if I were to go back a tundra would tempt me now. Because of the engine power. But I do commute about 60 miles a day so that wouldn’t be the best idea. o_O

There’s very few complaints with the manual. Just like my 1st gen, there’s been no issues. Just didn’t want to deal with a frame issue and the 1st gen was truly a small size truck, even small for me and I’m average size.

I’d buy the 3rd gen again, especially if this were to be the last generation of manual trans, I’d buy another one in Quicksand and Access cab of course.

Yup. Exact same spec. I drove the auto before going with MT also. Things I wish were factory option though(black leather, and long bed/manual). Easily fixed by aftermarket though for the seats.

Even after the 2 + years of development and aftermarket support for the auto transmission, I don't regret the MT and short bed. #stillinlove. Like others have said so many times, takes forever to really learn the clutch/trans and you really have to give er to get the most out of it. MPG is pretty good too for a truck. Averaging solid 18's and low 20's for highway. 4x4 on or off.

Considering there isnt a huge difference between auto trans, off road and limited (in my opinion), Im happy with the spec of the TRD Sport.

I've had my truck for over two years and I would buy it again despite knowing of it's service bulletins and shortcomings.
