1st on my list was a COLORADO or CANYON because they were cheaper, more techy, and something new to the eyes.. but then my whole intention of buying the truck was to keep it until it breaks down.. so i went with the tacoma primarily for its durability. toyotas are proven to be durable and thats all that matters to me.. looks is subjective, price i can negotiate, and trucks for what its worth don't really need to be that techy..

had i went with my first option, i for sure will be replacing them faster because they will for sure break down faster than a Tacoma.

oh and yes, i would buy the same truck all over again.. 2017 WHITE TOYOTA TACOMA TRD SPORT DCSB

I like my truck, but I don't think I would. I was extremely impressed with my test drive of a 2018 4runner TRD OR last week. The build quality, transmission, comfort, room in the back seats, etc. It's simply a superior vehicle minus the truck bed.

Sometimes modest is better. I keep reminding my self not to go over the top lol. I built a track car once.. by the end I wished it was stock. I try keeping that in mind with my taco.

This 3rd gen is a good little truck, if I had to, I would get another one just like this one in a heartbeat.

Dont quote me, but I coulda swore for essentially the same tech and mechanical parts, the Colorado was much more expensive.

I have a 2017 MGM DCSB Off Road Auto. I love my truck for everything its worth and it will be my off road truck/daily driver for a long time forward. However, if I had a new pick today or in the near future I would (personally) go with one of either a Jeep JL 4dr Diesel or a Chevy ZR2 Diesel. In the not too distant future from that we will have the Ford Bronco (unknown powertrain, hopefully not just 4cyl) and the Jeep Wagoneer (hopefully a v8/diesel option) but until those are on the market I do not know. I guess if I had a gun to my head and had to pick one today it would be a 4runner for the better v6 option.

This is coming from a taco with the following mods:
    - 265/75/16 Cooper AT3's (~32")
    - CBI bolt-on rock sliders
    - Fox (Level 4) 2.5 extended travel front + rear (external reservoir + compression adjustment)
    - Dakar heavy duty leaf pack
    - ARB compressor (single) on board for airing up/down
    - Dual battery system for accesories
    - Switch Pro panel
    - Front Runner Slimline II roof rack
    - RCI Bed Rack
    - Roof top tent + Camp Lighting (no bar, just flood lights)
    - CB radio etc.
    - Other small mods here & there for whatever...

I love my truck and for the most part (off-road) I have zero complaints but (on-road) I wish it had a bit more power or simply that the engine/transmission combo was a bit of a better fit. As is now, especially living a mile above sea level its just a bit underpowered (constant shifting). The fuel economy is not really better from a full size truck and the resale value doesn't seem to be as good on the 3rd gens as 2nd/1st. Again, I love my truck but if it was totaled tomorrow and I got to pick something else I'm not sure I would pick it again.

For insurance you are correct. I sent them all of the receipts I had for the parts (good thing I kept them), and got paid back some money for them. I'd say I was paid around 50% of their actual worth. Biggest loss was for the tires and labor cost of installing some parts. I actually could have gotten some parts back, but to do so I would have had to supply the original OEM parts, which I had sold already.

All in all I was paid out a little more than I paid for the truck new with the extra money I got from the mods...still lost some money, but not really all that bad all things considered. I actually didn't expect to get a dime for the mods, so I was pleasantly surprised.

Would definitely buy again. I know the engine/trans combo could be better (should of been better), I did not want a full size and did not want one of the twins.
