Im not sure if this has been said before regarding this quote above, but these people are shooting themselves afterword. What kind of retaliation are you talking about that they arent already going to do themselves?

You think it's appropriate for elementary teachers to be carrying guns while at work ?

Not nearly to the scale that it did, though.

Knife, baseball bat, bare hands -- all would have taken much, much longer and provided opportunity for fight or flight.

No, guns did not cause this situation, but they sure as shit didn't help.

Why not just leave it in the desk drawer for little Johnny to find? Because we've demonstrated so admirably how efficient we are in this country about safekeeping of our firearms.

How about in a high school? Where emotions run high everyday, students are introduced to gangs, drugs and wild swings of hormones? What's to keep the defensive end from knocking down Principal Johnson, taking his gat and splattering Jasmine's head all over the gym the cheating bitch?

What's to keep Mrs. Jones from pissing herself at the sound of gunfire, pulling the .38 from her purse and shooting wildly at the "attacker," missing and killing two students who were running out the door to safety? Training? Do you have to qualify with a sidearm now to become a teacher?

I don't see how introducing more firearms into a school causes less problems. Maybe less mass shootings - but a higher amount of isolated incidents for certain.

I disagree. Who knows what the fight or flight response of the teacher woudl have been. What would their training be? That's easier said than done. Plus you have the problem of the kids finding the gun. Also a lot of teachers arent the most happy workforce out there right now. Not sure everyone should be strappin at PTA meetings and parent teacher conferences.

Putting a cop in every school? That will get expensive.
Gun control? Probaly not the best time to take billions out of the economy right now.
I think our society and culture needs more examination than anything right now. Kid was probaly a loner, failure at life, had mental issues and was doped up on meds and sat in his moms basement playing Call of Duty all day.

Why are there so many multiple shooting incidents in the US when compared to other industrialized countries ?

If we can end this rediculous war on drugs and focused that funding and man power towards personal protection and patrolling I bet you the country would get a lot safer quickly.

    Stock...for now
They should leave the law abiding citizen alone and take guns away from the criminals who have bad intentions for them. Just my 2 cents.

If they did I would become a farmer without question. Problem with farming now is that if you want to make any money you either need to have a lot of land or have to dupe people into thinking your veggies are better than whats at the grocery store. With Marijuana legalized a land owner in possession of one or two acres could actually make a pretty good living off of it.

Not every teacher would need one. But teachers with CHLs should be able to carry in schools IMO. Gun free zones are just like shooting fish in a barrel. What is it like 95% of public shootings occur in gun free zones

x2. just about all the schools around here have a least one SRO. also the schools that are in the county, the SRO don’t get paid like the officers do. also they are only trained thru the county. don’t think they acutely work for say knox county sheriffs office=KCSO(the county around knoxville) i think they work for the schools.

also i know that some times they leave and go get food or what ever. they don’t sit in a chair by the office all day. they also walk around different parts of the school.

i agree 100% teachers with CCL/CWP should be allowed to carry concealed ONLY no open carry, even if state allows open carry.

and yeah idk what the % is but seams like most the ones this year at least have been in gun free zones. i think the movie theater did not allow guns, but could be wrong.(i think i read some where that is was)

Sorry Honey Boo Boo was on...NO it's an excellent point. Nobody ever does, each side will blame soemthing but there are ever really any true solutions.

I went to Europe for my honeymoon. In Germany some guy dropped his kid off at the train station in the village we were in. He was maybe 12 and rode the train to Munich. There was no fear of anything, acted like he does it every week. We saw tons of kids come and go, no parents. When I lived in Atlanta, I wouldn't ride the MARTA alone, let alone put a kid on it. I really dont know what's wrong with this country any more.

Terrible and horrific happening at the school.

The original question? Yeah, at least if semi-autos with large cap magazines were banned and made illegal to own, yeah, I'd give mine up. And I agree with rs5's post about the second amendment.
Arming teachers has been suggested. Adding an additional gun to the mix, carried by a civilian, would not end this sorta thing. The teachers at the school, by all reports, did their jobs, just getting the kids away, or hidden. The principal and others rushed to the sound of the gunfire. They were heros. We don't pay teachers to be professional gun-fighters, and having a concealed license and a bit of training (the training involved in most states is about legal and safety issues) does not make one qualified to take on an armed and shooting madman. Despite the John Wayne mindset of most gun owners/concealed carriers.

There are many more kids killed or injured yearly by accidental discharges, than died yesterday. Which makes the school shooting no more less horrific.
