I "sold" all mine. As per the law in my state I didn't need a receipt or record given to whom I sold them to.

Hawaii: Measure preventing government gun seizures nears approval

A bill preventing the government from seizing legal firearms during an emergency has been passed by the Hawaii Legislature. The full Senate voted 21-0 Friday to approve the measure after it already passed the House.

It's an AMERICAN thing, you wouldn't understand.

To those that think this would never happen, need I remind you of Katrina? Most of those people still haven't got their guns back.

Ive had tons of my friends ask me, 'why do you need to carry a gun concealed?' Or 'where do you go where you think you might need one?'...well...first of all its better to have and not. Neef than need and not have. It only happens once, if i dont have it then im dead.

Also, do you think anyone in that PA gym thought they were in a place where they needed their CC? Doubt it. Its my absolute right to bear as many as i want as long as i abide by the law

I think Justice Story made a great comment in 1811 about the 2nd amendment.

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

The importance of this article will scarcely be doubted by any persons, who have duly reflected upon the subject. The militia is the natural defence of a free country against sudden foreign invasions, domestic insurrections, and domestic usurpations of power by rulers. It is against sound policy for a free people to keep up large military establishments and standing armies in time of peace, both from the enormous expenses, with which they are attended, and the facile means, which they afford to ambitious and unprincipled rulers, to subvert the government, or trample upon the rights of the people. The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them.

The idea, the notion that we are free people and are armed is a core value and should always serve as a reminder to those in government who would abuse and trample on the rights of the people.

If the government tried to take our guns, we would organize and resist.

no, but i wouldve probably had it in my locker if it was allowed. what i was getting at is that no one knows when or where they might be put in a situation like that.

i spend quite a bit of time in Canada, and you boys have no shortage of what politicians call "assault rifles," ... no shortage at all

    it's not an American thing
Canadians per capita are as armed, if not more, than Americans ... fact

and the guns confiscated in the aftermath of Katrina will never be returned

    that's another fact

This is very unlikely - keep in mind, the authors of the constitution and bill of rights had been fighting a war of impossible odds against the might of the British empire... AKA their own government.

In that light, if you've just won freedom from your own oppressive government, it isn't about defense against foreign armies at all. From the british perspective, the founding fathers committed treason!

Therefore, the right to bear arms was of course centered around the notion that governments can become oppressive, and it is imperative to arm citizens to keep this in check.

I'm not calling for revolution, here, I'm just pointing out what they must have been thinking, given what they had just gone through.

Good luck to the government if they ever decide to take the publics' firearms. I will be in the backwoods and riverbottoms of they really, really want to come and get them. They better not forget, that I know that land and how to get around it unseen better than they ever could. That is along with all the other country folk around here. I bet that even the military wouldn't want to mess with folks who have more guns than them, and for damn sure are more attuned to their local areas.

So, I see this video float around here and there. But why? If anything this proves that most people will indeed hand their guns in without a fight.

If we (collectively speaking) don't learn from the past, we're doomed to repeat it.

though you are right that a few peeps would be crazy to come after you guys in the woods, i think if the military were to be involved youd be done for. All theyd have to do is bring in a few choppers with night/heat vision and youd all be dialed in. I sure hope it would never get to that, but it would be hard to fight m-4's, mortars, tanks and jets/helicopters (and a lot of them)

Yeah, and they also said that we were "outgunned" etc. by the British. Look what happened then. Just gotta believe. If you go into it with a negative attitude, then of course you will be defeated.

I've never hunted or owned a gun in my life.

With that said, I think it's absolutely paramount that the rights of those who own them (and don't own them) be protected at all costs.

I'm curious about how you current gun owners feel about assault rifle bans? Are guns guns, or do you draw the line somewhere?
