They don't fold up, but they are very simple to remove... canvas and/or hoops. I spoke with the rep at Can-Back last week and provided some ideas that they were very interested in integrating into their product line. My ideas were 1) Make the cross bars of the hoops removable and 2) provide a back-to-front canvas roll up method. This would make the system removable enough for tall loads like a dirt bike. He said that they would even make a bag to store the canvas similar to the Softopper. I agree with you guys about the price but remember that this system is expandable from a standard canvas shell to a racking system and would be made "convertible" by request. The Can-Back is made of stainless steel and sunbrella frabric as opposed to aluminum and PVC empregnated fabric.

Yea. Those are sweet. If I had the money I’d get one.

I'd own soft topper if I wasn't worried about people breaking in and stealing everything in my bed for meth-money :annoyed: Have to stick with the factory tonneau cover until I find either a BBP hard-top (doubtful on Guam) or get drunk enough to pay for shipping. Those soft toppers look awesome and would be much more useful than the tonneau cover for my needs...

When you get it in your mits, could you follow up a bit? Specifically interested in the crossbar mounting setup (threaded nutsets for mounting the mounting rail and, perhaps, the bolt hole distance)? Their cross bars are outrageously priced. I have no shortage of Yakima bars and good old A1 towers. I suspect I could make those work in the alternative. Anyway, thanks!

One thing I really wish Softopper had was just a solid rear instead of that useless vinyl window. Then you wouldn't have any issues with it cracking. Maybe it's easy enough to have a solid piece of canvas sewn in, though.

When new, maybe you can. They get scratched up, wrinkly, etc. Had one on a convertible years ago. Couldn't see anything out of it. Besides, rear view cam and side view mirrors do just fine for me.

I went with a roll-up tonneau because I knew I wouldn't be carrying anything large. The Mobtown bed rack works perfectly with it. The roof top tent will add a little more security. For loading/access, with some modifications, I installed an RV cargo drawer/slide. 39" x 60" and less than half the cost of a bed slide or cargo glide.

I bought the extra mesh backing too. I think it was an extra $40. But real easy to switch back and forth. It looks a lot better but dust and rain can get in through the back. Don’t have any pictures with it on though.

Is it an "off menu" item? I don't see it on their site.

    Accessories Available Include:
    Protective Boot Cover
to increase longevity and provide easy storage.
Rear Screen Panel: Great for camping, and providing airflow to pets in the truck bed!

EDIT: Found it. You have to order it separate, but it is available. Good to know.

i think you can put in your order notes that you want to swap the vinyl one for a solid one.

I went with tonneau because it retains the "truck look" knowing I will eventually get a full rack and RTT. I also have the pop and lock tailgate which adds security. Go with whatever you find most functional. Just my .02

I called them. You have to order it separate, unfortunately.

I've had a softopper for a while and love it. Easy to install and remove. I also built a sleeping platform so I can camp in it

Can you still use the tie down cleats along the bed rails with the softopper installed?

Also is there an mpg loss with the softopper in either the folded (not in use) or popped up positions?
