After the wrangler v6 pentastars have been shaking thier heads to pieces, with at least 4 major head revisions since release, I imagine they are in a hurry to replace the lemonstar engine with anything at this point!

I'm not a fan of a true jeep motor either.
That is really what has held me back to this point.
The thing I am buying is the ability to have a vehicle that allows me to remove the doors when I feel like it, remove the sides of the soft top if I like, and the ability to drop the top if I feel like it. Sort of a convertible truck that has off road ability.
Maybe I should just look for a 60's-70's two door land cruiser :)

Jeep hasn't put a decent motor in the Wrangler since they stopped using the 4.0 inline 6. My previous 2 Wranglers had the 4.0 and it was the best motor I've ever had in ANY of the Jeeps I've ever owned.

And before anyone says it, yes, I know Jeep claims the 3.8 was rated to have more HP than the 4.0 but anyone who had both will tell you Jeep can shove that HP rating up their azzz because the 4.0 was ten times the motor the 3.8 was. The 3.6 has decent power but with all their troubles, forget about it.

Good luck trying to find a landcruiser of that vintage that hasn't turned to dust (in the ne, anyway). And I have to agree, the inline 6 was a damn good match to the Jeep...When they went to fuel injection, I thought i had a hot rod for chrissakes

Bull shit, The latest Taco is proof they could give a fuck about what we want. Why are we still strapped with the motor we have when they could easily have thrown in the one from the FJ cruiser? Why did we just now get Navigation in 2012? Leather option? LOL! My Mazdaspeed 3 had it in 2008 and that is a base model car. They sell what makes them the most money, not what the customers want. Explain why turbo diesel VWs are huge around me? I would say they sell 1:1 TDIs to gas around here. Maybe in Yankee Land where cars rust out like toilet paper diesels aren't popular because cars don't benefit from the longevity of a diesel, but around here in the foothills where we drive up hills both ways to get to work, and where we actually understand torque>HP in a truck, we prefer diesels.

    Believe what you want.

20-25% of the cars sold by VW are diesels.

All that, yet you still own a Tacoma with a gas engine... :jerkoff: How do you convince a car manfacturer that they need to change something when there are still plenty of people buying the product as-is?

    Exactly.

Seems that many people think that everyone wants the same things they do. Not everyone uses their truck off road, nor do they tow with it, nor haul loads of bricks. I would guess that those uses are actually in the minority.

Well, he does not exactly have a lot of choices in a midsize market. Not even 1/2 ton for that matter. Diesel Ram is only recently announced for 2014. So I don't think that is 100% fair to say. If he went and bought HD diesel truck or a TDI Jetta instead, Toyota would still not care since neither is competition to Tacoma. He would partially make a point by buying a diesel, but not making a point towards the Taco.

How do you know what every current and prospective owner wants? Have you spoken to them all? Plenty of people couldn't care less If the engine makes 236 HP or 270 HP.

Also last time I checked a company is in business to make money. They're not going to forego profits to cater to some people on a forum. The product still sells more than its competitors therefore as far as they're concerned if people are still choosing their product it must be good enough. I don't see many people jumping ship here and heading to Nissan for available leather and some more HP in the Frontier. Its not to say they shouldn't improve the Taco but on their end what do you gain when the rest of the segment couldn't give a shit about being competitive right now in the segment.

Actually I believe it's Delphi doing the research not MIT and the correct terminology would be more along the lines of gasoline powered compression ignition. It seems that they only have a single piston motor and have just started working with a multi cylinder test engine.

The compression ignition engine is named after its inventor, Rudolf Diesel, regardless of the fuel used.

And it was designed to run on bio fuel... specifically, peanut oil, not petroleum.

    Very Good class!
I was told: MIT, and another in Europe.

This thread has a lot of heat to it! The fact that Toyota doesn't provide an engine that meets the needs of everyone is probably common throughout the auto industry. IMO we all should want a motor that provides very high torque and unlimited mileage. Ultimately, we need to get away from paying the oil companies for every mile we drive.
