here's what i did today, since i had noticed that my steering was really shitty on the used truck i bought..........got my wife to turn the steering wheel back and forth, while i slid under the truck to look. holy crap........no wonder the steering sucks.......every steering rack bushing under there is completely shot!!! the whole friggin rack moves about an inch and a half, close to 2 inches in both directions. that explains why the hell the steering is loose as hell, and the play in the wheel is funky as shit!! boy.....the dealership did one hell of a job with their 160 point inspection!! i got the wrap warranty that i paid good money for....gonna put that to use!!! this pisses me off that they did absolutely nothing to the truck when i bought it.......only an oil change, and they sure as hell didnt check anything!!!

ya'll think the wrap warranty(which i was told covers everything, except brake pads and windshield wiper blades) should cover this?? i think the dealer will have to put a whole new steering rack in there, since they dont sell just the bushings!!! im gonna go to the dealership and complain like a sumbitch about this!!! then when they fix it.......still gonna put some energy suspension bushings in there!!! also......gonna show them the worn out ass sway bar bushings!!! cant believe thye skimped out on doing the stuff the right way with this truck.........i dont give a rats ass if it is used!!!

    any thoughts????

I think thats a good idea, Will. A friend of mine showed me the checklist on the "100+" point inspections, and part of it is checking the lug nuts. EACH NUT IS CONSIDERED ONE POINT. So, the Tacoma has 24 points to the inspection just in the lug nuts! Those inspections are a bunch-O-shit!

Guy doing the inspection-".....uhhhhh......ummmm......Its got a body.....thats gotta be 50 points.......and....uhhhhh.......mmmm.....its gotta motor, so thats another.....uhhhhh.....50........ and tires...is......uhhhh.......60.......and...hmmmmm.......uhh.......widows......they are a nuther.....ummmm.......47.........OH yeah! Air in the tires is........uhhh..........85.........so there is your 100 point inspection...uhhh....."

Chris....you are exactly correct about the guy doing the inspection!!! the guy who did mine, i found out 2 weeks later, was fired for being lazy as hell.

Hell Yeah, Will! You paid for the protection, and the lazy ass should have checked it. Have them fix it. Also, If they are going to replace it, slip the mechanic a $20.00 to have him install your new bushings for ya! :D

well.....aint got the new energy suspension bushings yet, but if they replace the steering rack, i'll be cool with that. i know how lazy the 160 point inspection was....hell, i had to do my brakes..they were shot, new shocks....the olds were shot/leaking fluid, the steering rack and sway bar bushings are shot........damn it all to hell.....i hate lazy people at a dealership supposed to be doing their job. after they see the steering rack......i kinda doubt they will be able to tell me its normal, or not under warranty oranything else that bullshit for that matter. no way in hell, when the truck is off, that i should be able to turn the steering wheel a couple inches both ways!!!

hell.....i may even take the digital camera under there and get a video and post on here and show ya'll how worn out the bushings are!!!

You should tell the Manager of the place you bought it from what you just posted. These Fuck Tarts love to sing the "bla bla Point inspection" song, but really they just start the engine, kick the tires and check the oil. Its crap! THEN, they wonder why on an open forum we bash their mechanics and technitions? ANytime some A hole wants to stick their head under the hood of my truck wanting to do some bull shit inspection, I tell them if they do, I'll close my hood on them.

after doing alotta reading, it seems to me that the dealership will have to install a new steering rack because they cant get just the bushings. good for me........i'll take new. and they will have to redo the alignment....kinda hard to get the steering wheel centered when the bushings are that worn out.....and my steering wheel sits to the left!!! damn joke ass dealership lackeys!!!!

after the new rack or whatever the stealer does....im still gonna install energy suspension bushings!!!

just got back from the stealership..................friggin bastards.

they fixed the rattle in my door, but they had the balls to say that the worn out steering rack and sway bar bushings were completely normal. those dipshits think every damn thing really wrong with something is normal!!! im about pissed now. the service manager did tell me to bring my receipts for my shocks and brakes back in and he'd "see what he could do", since that shit should have been checked in the first place, and wasnt touched.

well.......gonna do as i had planned to do............get wheeler's 5 leaf pack, and energy suspension poly bushings for the steering rack, sway bar and leaf springs. i think im about done with going to toyota for any damn thing........getting tired of hearing "its normal" every time im there and i know that something is fucked up!!!!

hell, the steering is loose as shit, and there is alotta damn play there too. when you crank the truck and turn the steering wheel back and forth.........the complete rack moves back and forth 2 inches to each side. i knwo they are rubber bushings in the rack, but the damn thing aint supposed to move that much. so.......im just gonna get some energy suspension bushings and replace them, which will tighten up the rack a great bit. also....gotta get some new rear leafs too....them sumbitches are flat as hell, and axle wrap is crazy as hell on my truck. so much in fact, the wife noticed it....and that usually never happens.

basically....where you can feel your springs give.....and in my case from being worn out, and the axle rolls forward a bit, and makes the drive shaft shift a bit.....you can feel it big time!!

well....finally got fed up with the service dept at the local toyota saying everything was "normal".........so i went back up there today!!! something strange happened....i found a tech that knows what the hell he is talking about!!!:D

he looked at the steering rack and said "damn........that aint supposed to move like that!!"..........so.......under my wrap warranty....i have a whole new steering rack ordered, and i will be getting it installed and a free alignment on monday or tuesday. ;) i knew the other techs were fulla shit!!!

and i was telling him about all the stuff i have had to do since i got my truck, and about their lack of their "160 point inspection"......he is gonna go back over everything and fix the rest of the stuff that needs fixing under warranty!!! i love finally raising enuff hell to get stuff done!!!

If your tires are having issue see if you can get them to replace them as well do to all the sterring issues.. it is long shot...

See what beer the tech likes and make sure he gets a 6 pack of it..That might help grease the wheel more....
