oh god here we go again

    it comes down to this
    ----------------------------------------------
    use which fluid ? a or b

a--[what aisin and toyota engineers and materials scientists formulate as the fluid to use]

    vs

b--[what some team of unknown and unaccountable random fuckwits trying to reverse engineer what toyota paid millions for recommend, because it's a conspiracy]

lol, doubt they spent millions of research, as with most manufacturing (of which has been my career for 25 or so years) we tend to pick the cheapest that meets the minimum requirements. Cost vs Payback. Replacing every 20k kilometers(read ~12k miles) or two years seems a bit excessive(these numbers are Aisin's numbers). Well the two years isn't however who puts 6k a year on these days?

are you joking or just incredibly 'out there' ?

the salaries alone for the people who design clutch materials and adhesives is over a million dollars a year. you know very little about
how major corporations with > 300,000 employees and over 23 billion US dollars in operating income actually do business.

wait, here is the easy answer that requires NO logic and no real thought. it's all a conspiracy to get you to pay MORE

Bought my 2007 4Runner used with 192k. Last week I had Toyota flush and refill my Transmission with their WS ATF fluid. I did not know this existed. So far so good it's still working fine.

I'm referring to the research on the "fluid" used exclusively. Again Cost vs Payback. They developed WS and meerly overestimated its useful service life, that is nothing new in manufacturing. Why would toyota go from 100k to 60k on fluid replacement recommendations. No it is not a conspiracy, please. It is simply an incorrect recommendation on a fluid that saved them in environmental charges. It's good business on their part from a cost savings point of view. However if you made it public that it would be "safe" to change your transmission fluid once a year, wouldn't fly with most people. @gearcruncher posted a "useful life vs temperature" in another post and based on when the thermostat opens its safe to say you could probably go somewhere between 25-50k to change the fluid out, which places it at around 37k. This sounds reasonable, 60k does not. Of course this is based off fluid characteristics, oxidation rates, thermal breakdown etc. of "normal use".

    tell me this:

what is the sweet spot (stokes number) of particulate suspension, where the broken down particles of the clutches
and bands are suspended in WS fluid, and this optimizes the friction coefficient and contact between those clutches
and steel, as well as drag coefficient inside the valve body and solenoids for maximum shifting performance
and fuel economy, on a fully broken in a750f automatic for a gen 2 tacoma 4x4 2012 and up ? it's a number between new clean fluid and old burnt out fluid.

don't have an answer ? hmmm ? I know who does.

I am meerly making a point. Toyota has changed their minds. Aisin recommends something else. So who trumps who, Aisin or Toyota. I would say Aisin, however Aisin is probably being to "safe", there is a "fudge" factor. Toyota is probably overestimating due to reputation and reliability. Again the post by @gearcruncher on thermal breakdown vs useful life seems to provide a good starting point.

governmental and geographic regional demands and requirements vary when you are a multi-national corporation
selling product worldwide... and that is just one of several reasons document A will disagree with document B for
what appears to be the same item or system

not an argument just a discussion about opinions based on the limited/contradictory information out there.

Some might say that what you just described is nearly identical to the definition of argument. Lol. Once again - I am too dense to comprehend what was said, so this will be my last "contribution" to this thread.

So, I have a 2013 Tacoma, v6, 5spd auto tranny. I just had the transmission flushed and the lube shop refilled it with Mercon V fluid. Am I screwed or is it OK ?

I would go back to them and make with flush it again and not with that fluid. Something better.
