You got a trans dipstick? Not likely on a Tacoma.

Valvoline will not void your warranty. That's a fact. If you do something stupid and pour engine oil into your trans, because of gross negligence, you might have a point, otherwise, I really don't see your point.

You don't have the V6 right? The smaller engine, yes?

This thread is/was originaly about bashing WS fluid I think... Don't really know what's going on anymore in here.

Anyways, I remembered the smaller engine had the dip stick. Looks good!

Gotcha, so no real consensus on if the toyo stuff should be removed before the recommended time

It's my understanding that Toyota did in fact revise their maintenance schedules. My advice, is to use the Toyota site, to pull up your year truck and see what they say. I think the recommendation for my '09 was to do something at 100K miles. It's more frequently if you tow.

total bs (same as the OP suggesting that the sky is falling) - there is no service on the water pump. honda only recommends checking it when replacing the time belt at 110,000 miles because you have to remove it for the belt change. at that point it not a bad idea to consider replacing a $50-$100 part when you are already paying the labor. if you have a chain then there is not even a scheduled water pump check. either case the pump is designed for the life of the engine.

i'm at 59k, so i'm at the stealership yesterday morning to pickup 4qts of toyo ws. the parts guy ask why i needed it? to change the fluid was my response and he said i didn't need to change it because its good for the life of the truck. so i educated the man about toyo's 2009 service update and reason was the ws fluid sucks

    Don't be a "Dick".
On a side note, when I went in to buy WS the last time, the guy at the service desk asked me if I knew about the temp check procedure. He said they'd had a lot of vehicles come in with problems because people didn't know what they were doing. He didn't specify if they were damaging their trannies or just bringing them in after they accidentally drained the transmission while changing oil...let's face it, that happens quite a bit. Most people don't bother with changing the ATF though, so the accidental draining during an oil change seems likely to me.

That's my name so I'm always a dick

i also had to educated the stealer about the 5k oil change interval - had copy of the service bulletin in glove box and had pull it on 15k mile service.

I agree the parts guys are usually pretty good- but I wasn't going to give him any slack on an 8 yr old update. I was back in the next day for crush washers and he thanked me for the info.

Maybe I helped the next customer

In an automatic transmission you shouldn't be coasting in neutral and going to drive at any those speeds. I use to do that a lot hoping to save fuel in a Lexus I use to own. Bad idea; after a few months tranny went to shit. I've learn over the years that you really start to wear out the clutch packs inside the automatic transmission, constant neutral to drive will engage and dis-engage those clutches too often. More wear and tear; not worth replacing a transmission or rebuilding one.
