It's DARK here in San Francisco. It's 9:30AM and if I turn off all the lights in here it's pitch black. I have never seen anything like this my whole 60 year life.
Apparently there's a thick layer of smoke from about 4 major fires here in Norcal and it's stuck suspended at about 3000' over the whole Bay Area. Combine that with a heavy marine layer below that smoke and it's straight nighttime here.
And there are large chunks of ash falling everywhere.
How bad is it where you're at?

FINALLY we have clear skies here in the Owens Valley. We have had smoke almost every day for the past 2-3 weeks. Seems the wind has sent the smoke west.
I hope firefighters are able to get these fires under control.

Sacramento here - orange sun and yellow light, but at least we have light. Ash like snow on my black truck. We've taped the front door seams, some windows and have 5 air purifiers going (my other half has asthma so we accumulated them since last fire season).

Pic (not from today) is from my parents and the river fire, which is now contained. Luckily they have farm fields between them and the fire. I had them jerry rig a purifier by taping a HEPA filter to a box fan. They had to change it daily for a week. Better now though.
