No sorry, 2nd hand knowledge based on conversations with buddies who are firefighters. I did read some essays on the subject as well but no ready links at my disposal.

Edit: looks like @JaCado brought you under way

I did a presentation back in my younger college days on forest fires and how they are good for the environment. By building and not allowing nature to manage its self, this stuff will happen. The real devastation will occur after the fires are out and it starts to rain.

edit: I should say, the real environmental devastation

Eh, if it's just wood ash, that's a short-lived problem, of course mudslides a factor, but that has as much to do with dumbasses building on the sides or below hills that get burned right before the monsoon season. Fires return a lot of nitrogen back to soil, which is why you see a lot of plant growth within a few months after a wildfire. Controlled burns HAVE to be done.

There was a report from a fire here in the desert.
It burned everything, but after the new growth started.... they were seeing desert flowers and plants that haven't been seen in a 100's of years.
The heat opened/open seed pods that only pop at at certain temperature. Like pine trees... the pine cone needs heat to open and give seeds back to the earth.

It’s all the land that will slide or wash away from the large fires killing off the ground cover.

    fires are good, I agree.

Ah you caught that, eh fellow RF geek? I tuned 10 megs to try and add an audio timestamp to the video but propagation was so poor, too much fade.

When witnessing never before seen stuff like this, I tend to start thinking the same.

That’ll be enough of that bullshit.

You want mods killing this thread? Because stupid comments like this are how good conversation gets stomped.

Only if the mods fail to detect sarcasm as well. Last I checked that wasn’t illegal around here (yet)

Yea not cool on a people stand point but an ecological stand point the new growth in the forests and the deserts will be awesome. I’m in Oregon right now my house the cross hairs. The forests needed this the ground was just covered in dead dry wood. 0036D57D-7633-496E-9BBE-7939A59111DA.jpg

Hope my last troop Aaron is the shooter and your house is missed.

Kid couldn’t hit a target if he threw his M-16 at it from point-blank.

It's like this section of manastash ridge. Forest fire came through about 5-6 years ago? Now there's a ton of new trees and underbrush growing.

All I know is I'm choking on smoke, there's fires from the mountains to the suburbs, to the coast, and I know half a dozen people that are on level two to level three GTFO evacuation. Were on a warning for toxic air. In 34 years in Oregon, I've never seen this shit, and I hope I never see it again. This is fucked up.

I was in Nebraska when St. Helens blew, and WE had shitty air. I can’t imagine how bad it is for everyone over there.

Y’all need a bad-ass rain dance or something.
