did you wyoming guys see the event we posted? looking to see if any of you yota people wanted to join. its a raptorfest right now. everyone signed up has a raptor. would like to get a variety of vehicles out there

 

also heading up there next weekend to do some more prerunning if you guys want to join

 

Stronger, more powerful engine with more torque too. It can overpower the the older 8.0 diff design. Causes the internal structure to flex which causes the pinion gear to pull away from the ring rear, thus eating the teeth. The issues that have been encountered have nothing to do with the elocker design tho.

 

Because toyota was lazy and put a tiny diff in a bigger truck with more power. Add a bunch of aftermarket weight and bugger tires and your asking for it.

A supercharged 1st gen barely makes the same as a stock 2nd Gen. Also weight is huge.

All diffs from all tacomas save 3rd gens (and the front clamshell) are the same. Open or locked. Even the same as 4runner and some of the Tundra and Lexus vehicles

Manufacturer change doesn't matter. They are swap able still and aren't any stronger design then your own diff.

 

They finally redesigned the 3rd Gen rear diff. It's an 8.75". But they have had problems with that diff. More then 2nd Gen ever did.

That is also were the harrop locker is from. It's the elocker design for the 3rd Gen but they made if fit in our diffs as well.

Aisin sells them separate now for $350. Not that bad for brand new and from an OEM manufacturer.

I have a 2nd gen 3rd member on my truck that has been working great with my factory actuator.

Super frustrating! A hazard of being an "early adopter" maybe, but still you wouldn't expect a latch to be the failure point. Sounds like it is a known issue, so hopefully Bobby has a solution is already in the works and it won't be too long before you're fully functional.

When do you get the extra truck put on for the tent. Looks pretty cool though

 

how is that secured to the truck? it look like it will rattle off

 

I'd move the rack on the bed so you can mount the tent with less overhang on one side than the other. Then you'll have less chance of stressing your nice new tent.
