i wouldnt be so worried about highway driving or any pavement driving for that matter, but once you get offroad, i have never had faith in those types of setups. would love to be proven wrong though. i think its a great idea. luckily im short enough to be able to sleep in the back seat of my truck

 

Yeah a beefy agm battery might be a good choice and an easy upgrade. My AGM is like 780CCA so even really drained it still cranks the old truck just fine. The LEDs in the tent are a non issue for battery life, but phone charging might be.

 

you should mak it all transformers like. have it raise up and down so it can act as a bed cover too

 

just my experience. with all the stuff i have in my truck, i killed my oem battery in less than 4months. i replaced it with a yellowtop that i just replaced again a couple months ago. the yellowtop lasted me 3 years. twice the cost of the oem, but 8 times the life

They are the exact same.

The axle is different but the third member is the same. The 8.4 and elocker are different mounting though.

That said, the Locker ACTUATOR which is what this thread says is different...may be.

The actual diff is the same.

Sorry...but...i don't like it.

I leave mine plugged in no problem. Use the light all the time. Tip: press and hold the button and it'll dim. Release it to your desired brightness.

And alternator.

Doesn't go well with the truck i think. A summit Shasta would have been better i think. But whatever.


Great weekend of recording for me. Concerts were good, loved the sound. Was busy. But fun.

 

i personally would never have a bed tent. but your offroading and my offroading are 2 completely different things. what works for you wont work for me, and what works for me, wont work for you. it comes down to it being our own vehicles and modding it the way we see fit to accomodate our specific needs. i give you 2 thumbs up. i see it in the raptor world a lot. people buy the truck and never use for its intended purpose. i enjoy offroading and like seeing all aspects of offroading, even if its something i wouldnt do, mods included. so get on with your bad self and keep on moddin.

 

I have not used the phone charger. A) IDGAF about the phone when im in the hills. B) i just charge it in the truck throughout the day if needed. That said, a phone would not pull very much so i would not be too worried about that.

Just an outdoor 12v plug from the parts store. Was an easy install, pretty tight in the tail light area so test before you drill. But it works great. Has been quite handy as like you, my CVT plug is on the tail gate side. Rather then come up with some other way, I just use this and it works perfect as the Fridge stays in the backseat now. You could easily hard wire it though. I didn't do that just to make removing of the tent easier as I thought id be swapping the tent between trucks more.

Just tighten the AC belt. New belts will strech.

Likely the tires...BUT..if it isn't. Its a fucking axle bearing because thats what happened to me!

 

I like it. Plus if i ever need to plug in whatever else with a 12v plug..its right there. Though about putting one on the other side too.

AC generally puts a big load on the motor. But if its too tight, thats not good either. Push on the belt, should have 1/8'' of movement down at the most. If you can barely move it, its too tight.

 

Ben, you may or may not hear a rear axle bearing when it's starting to fail. You will see gear oil when the seal fails and that gear oil is usually what causes the bearing to fail. Mine have never leaked enough to have to replace lost oil.

 

Mine roared for over 6 months before it exploded. I changed wheels, rotated tires, replaced the front wheel bearings all in an effort to find the noise...was the rear the whole time.

 

What sucks its an expensive game...even with the specialty tools. I lucked out and did it for under 1000 bucks easy. But was still not cheap and i owe The Bretts for that too.

I did run it through the fuse block. Its a long run. Fuse it close to the battery.

 

No, my fuse block is right by the battery..and is also fused at the battery..well..a breaker.

I meant if you don't have a block, fuse it close to the battery.

 

only my first axle bearing failure made a vibration noise. The rest were silent.

 

Mine made a roaring noise for months..then it exploded and made the most terrifying noises reserved for the depths of hell.....exactly what you want to hear when going down the interstate..haha

Well im waiting to get paid..Had some oddities with work so i haven't been paid in over 2 months. Should finally get a check this week. Then ordering the diff. I have a week off after this next week and hope to get him good then. Least 4wd and an alignment. Then start working through other small things and driving him on all the weekend trips again. Try and make my tires last the season. On their last legs.

 

Yeah Devin and I have hit alot of dirt so far. Been fun.

 

So...why did you blow more money on a 2nd tent?
