Thanks! I certainly did learn a few things from it so the next one I can do even better. I have a 70-200 f2.8 in the mail now that I am excited to play with and see if I can do new stuff.

Not yet, it is a hand-me-down sorta thing so I just was waiting for my uncle to get home from his trip. It will be interesting and slot right between the 24-105 f4 and the 100-400 focal length wise, but the f2.8 will be the interesting part.

 

It's a classic lens. Very good. Film folks like it a lot. We have 2.

 

This is an older lens, doesn't have IS but that shouldn't be an issue. Hopefully find out in a few days.

Peaked under lil Red today to poke at the clutch. Tcase is leaking something fierce. Looks like the front seal is a goner. Probably due for fluid anyways.

 

Just did this on mine. Worst part is unstaking the nut.

 

I don't unstake them, just get the impact on and it'll unstake itself

 

Rather attempt a bit than destroy threads.

 

Those nuts are pretty soft, never managed to chowder one of those shafts

 

Yeah I usually try and unstake it a bit.

Need to get parts ordered.

 

Monte - you bought some of these aftermarket splash guards, right? (I think from the thread on TW or as a group buy or something?) How have they held up? I ripped one of my passenger guards on the last trip, and of course, Toyota no longer makes them...

$125 seems pricey since I only need one little bit on the back passenger side, but such is life, I suppose.

Yeah I have them on Igor. Toyota hasn't made them for years.

They are good. However, they don't last 20 years. They are very thick and soft so as they dry out they are known to crack and split. Mine haven't done that, but I know others have had that happen. Although maybe they have changed the material too. I see they have a new product coming called TrailTech. Could be worth inquiring about that.

There was floating around on here a diagram a guy made of the OEM ones so you could cut and trace your own from whatever you wanted. Pretty sure thats what that guy used that's selling them now ha

 

@turbodb I made some a few years ago out of cheap rubber mat - they didn’t last long so I am in the process of making some new ones using reinforced EPDM. EPDM is UV and weather resistant, and fiber reinforced so they won’t tear like those other ones. This is what I’m using:

My regular outdoor rated rubber mat skirts also disintegrated... the EPDM ones @drr is making sound more promising.

 

I have a copy of it, but I think it’s for the original splash guard size, which I find is insufficient. I oversized my last set to completely enclose the coil bucket, and went from the front frame horns to the body mount. I’ll size these ones the same, using my old ones as a template.
