I'm considering getting an xbox x. My hang up is that I have all my favorite games on xbox 360 discs.

For the backwards compatibility to work do you have to be hooked to the internet? Or could I just put a 360 game disc in and play it?

If you want to play Xbox 360 games there’s like a list of those that are compatible you can Google.. Not every 360 game released works on newer gen consoles. And if I recall basically you insert the disc and it makes you download the game and the disc is sort of also used like your access key in a way. So once you download the game from the Xbox store you can’t just run the download without the disc. Or at least that’s how it was on my Xbox one.

So you would have to be hooked to the internet for it to download? That's the catch. I'm rural and internet is slow, when we have it at all

If I recall, yes. But maybe it was just downloading assets from the disc I can’t remember. Find a 360 disc you have that’s on the compatible list out there and fire it up and see what happens.

Xbox X has a disc drive. Xbox S doesn't. Haven't tried it yet but it's half the reason I bought it. Then I had to buy new head phones, not compatible. Then a new monitor, didn't support RGB only hdmi. Ugh!

My 20 y.o. gateway monitor had vga and rgb. Perfect for an old computer and a xbox 360.

Some games work, most don't. Unlike PlayStation which does have good backwards compatibility. So I have to bounce around an OG Xbox, 360, and my series x. If you have downloaded the game on the 360 you should be able to use it on a s or x. For example I play left for dead 2 using the disk and it kept the saves and dlc from the 360.

Afraid to try and see if guitar hero is compatible. Game will work. Controller not so much. I (will) miss drunken friday night guitar hero.

Thanks google. GH dead. Rock Band still works.

Well I bit the bullet and got the xbox x. Currently 5 hrs into loading games on... 2.25 games done. Lost all the dlcs content for borderlands 2. Only the base game is supported. That's a heart breaker, I loved that game
